A while back I seem to recall that some Wiis were not able to be modded. I'm thinking about getting a Wii now and was wondering if I need to find a used older model or if I can just get one new and be able to mod it.
wait weren't there some new drives found with no d2c or d2e or whatever chip it is cuz they combined it with the bigger chip or something or was that information fake?

That's what I was thinking, I don't follow the topic very closely but I do remember reading that, think it was more integrated or something. rendering anything up till now useless.
Marcan and bushing spoke about that at the conference - I dont think we will see them on the shelves for a small while yet , but they are on the way - they can still be softmodded from what i can tell.
The new wiis that are out at retailers now have epoxy covering the drive chip legs. You can use a heat gun and a knife to remove it, but you won't be able to remove it to the extent that you can use a wii-clipped modchip.
Best bet is to get the d2sun, should be compatible with the latest drive chip (as long as you pry off some the epoxy)
