A while back I seem to recall that some Wiis were not able to be modded. I'm thinking about getting a Wii now and was wondering if I need to find a used older model or if I can just get one new and be able to mod it.

If you mean modding with a modchip then yes, every wii is able to be modded.

wow... you've been out of the loop since when... 2 days after launch??

Wii's have had Modchips since about 6 months after release, and you can even semi softmod now...

That's what I was thinking, I don't follow the topic very closely but I do remember reading that, think it was more integrated or something. rendering anything up till now useless.

Marcan and bushing spoke about that at the conference - I dont think we will see them on the shelves for a small while yet , but they are on the way - they can still be softmodded from what i can tell.

yes they can be softmodded, and d2pro (the best) already has us covered with a chip solution coming once it is really needed.

The new wiis that are out at retailers now have epoxy covering the drive chip legs. You can use a heat gun and a knife to remove it, but you won't be able to remove it to the extent that you can use a wii-clipped modchip.
Best bet is to get the d2sun, should be compatible with the latest drive chip (as long as you pry off some the epoxy)
