Hi,
I have a switch on OFW 4.01 and I'm waiting for emunand to try CFW but
I'm a little confused on the topic of what a clean nand is, some people say that in order to not get ban I need to:
  • Do a clean Nand and Boot0/Boot1 backup with Hekate.
  • Never Go online with Airplane mode and clearing the network settings.
  • Never delete the logs
  • Update the Firmware with ChoiDujourNX
  • Use Auto RCM to avoid burned Efuses with ChoiDujourNX
  • Never install NSP? only XCI are safe? but only SXOS has this feature?
  • Never install Homebrew??
I mean the only reason I would use CFW is for Homebrew and Backup games but I read some posts where people are saying that they did all that but installed .NSP games and homebrew then went back to OFW to play online but got ban and that we don't really know what kind of info Nintendo can get from the Nintendo Switch once is hacked, so the only alternative is to have two switches one for CFW and other for Online.

So my question is, Can Nintendo know about installed NSP and homebrew even after a Clean Nand Restore?

Thanks.

If you never go online then a lot of these don't matter. You can install nsp, run homebrew and delete logs all you want because all that is reverted when you restore the clean NAND backup.

So that means that Nintendo has now way of telling if someone installed .NSPs and Homebrew after the Nand Restore?

Something could trigger when you run the exploit in the first place to create the backup... but who knows. :P Nothing is 100% for sure, but that is everyones best guess as the safest method.

I don’t beleive there are any verified reports of users staying 100% offline then restoring a clean Nand and getting banned. However the Nand file you need to restore is always the backup you create right before installing CFW. If one goes online in OFW and then restores a Nand backup created right out of the box, N can tell something is up and ban you. That is the theory anyway.

Constantly creating and restoring backups to go online is a real time consuming pain and most can’t follow that regime so some like me buy a CFW only Switch and keep that 100% offline. Essentially a self-ban but we can restore the original Nand anytime we want and have a legit unbanned Switch.

Actually if I use CFW offline with Hombrew and .NSPs I just want to know that if a I follow all the steps I will still have the option to go back to the way the switch was before CFW and I won't get ban. I don't plan to going back and forth from CFW and OFW on my switch until some point in the future but I keep seeing people saying that the only way to achieve this is by using two Nintendo switches because apparently Nintendo can tell if you installed homebrew or .NSPs or even some parts of CFW or so people tell on some posts.

I always have a doubt if reinx backup is safe, you need enter in homebrew using albun then a nro ReiNX Toolkil before make a backup of nand.
For what I have read, it seems like the only way for a real clean backup is through Hekate because it runs before loading a CFW.

I guess that the real answer is that there is no guarantee no matter what steps you follow so the only way is using two switches until the scene can get more data on the telemetry and bans.

Thanks for the reply.

Reitoolkit is good for backups of your CFW Nand, not OFW Nand. Great for restoring CFW after a brick or after using OFW.

Nothing is 100% as Sony said. Restoring a OFW Nand is the best guess we have and nothing concrete to dispute it at this point. If you can’t risk getting banned then don’t do it. I really didn’t want to buy that CFW Swtich but has really been cool for the family.

Yes I guess that the only option for now as someone who would like to have Online gaming as a future option and won't buy a second switch just for CFW is to just forget about it and update my switch the normal way until the scene gets more info about the topic, I would lose warmboot with Dejavu but CFW is still a option in the future.
Thanks.

Splatoon 2, MK8D and Smash online are to important in my household to so we keep 2 OFW and 1 CFW. But if you aren’t willing to go there then hold off for now and see how things develop.
