Okay, so I got the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit ISO (non-cracked) and burned it. Then I installed on my new build. I got some W7 beta activation files (suggested by a guide online) and replaced the files. I then tried to activate using one of the 5 public infinite-use beta serials.

Keep in mind all of this was after the beta expired.

Windows detected me as "Non-Genuine", so I quickly turned to RemoveWAT. All's good, but...
I want SP1. The RemoveWAT readme says that I should first restore the WAT, update, then remove it again.

What should I do? What would happen if I updated without restoring the WAT? If I restored, would Windows lock my computer when I rebooted? Would the restored WAT prevent me from installing SP1? HELP!

Solution
You "Frankenbuild"-ed your install..... Good job.

That was -the- WORST way to activate Windows and RemoveWAT isn't much better. You should consider formatting your PC now and reinstalling. The Frankenbuild works because it replace system files with older and more vulnerable files, RemoveWAT works by stripping out files.

Currently you have a system based on the release with some old files and some removed files. When you update you're just going to be mixing yet another version. That it still works is somewhat surprising.
Start fresh and get something that doesn't mangle system files to activate (like buying an OEM copy or using Daz' loader).

For Daz' Loader:
1). Yes.
2). The same: Not very.
3). Latest.
4). If they looked, probably...
OK, a couple of questions...

1) Will it work after I install SP1?
2) How legal is it compared to RemoveWAT?
3) What version should I be looking for?
4) Can Microsoft detect that I've used it?
5) Have you seen any speed difference between W7 and SP1? Faster? Slower? I've heard that it includes KB970133 or whatever, which slows your computer down.
6) I read that Windows 7Loader only works on Ultimate. I have Home Premium. Will it still work?

5). KB970133 is a WAT (Windows Activation) update.
6). It will work on all versions, Ultimate is just the most common.

Solution
You installed SP1 which installed KB971033.

This is a method I haven't tried myself but may help in your situation.

Uninstall your current activation bypass
Restart
Run "sfc /scannow" in an elevated command prompt, restart if required
Install SP1
Remove KB971033 if installed
Restart
Run "sfc /scannow" in an elevated command prompt again
Restart
Use RemoveWAT
Change your display back from the black screen

It's from TheWang at a sharing website I visit. Credits go to him.

Daz's loader is on the MyDigitalLife forums, and there are heaps of tutorials and help sections there for installing it and cleaning up your previous mess.

I actually uninstalled RemoveWAT then put Daz's loader onto my PC. It works a lot better, although it screwed up the other day and I had to reinstall the loader again. Time to hunt down KB971033 again. I think it's lurking, after I installed SP1.

Oh, and like Daz himself suggests, just DON'T use RemoveWAT ever again. It's bad. So bad. Maybe once it was good, but not any more. Oh, and the loader should work for any version of Windows 7.

I HAVEN'T INSTALLED KB971033 OR SP1 YET!
That's why I was asking for help.

And anyway, we have a Vista computer and a Windows XP one. I think Microsoft owes us.

Basically, I'm getting a new HDD anyway. I'll update the old Windows without restoring WAT, see what happens, then nuke it. The new drive will have a fresh Win7 install and Win8 Beta install.
