Ok so I saw the thread about brute forcing the common key and got to thinking wouldn't the dsiware, the games, or the .bin files need the common key to access the dsi? If so then is there a way to find the common key by searching both files to find codes that are the same and make a file with all the possibilities then use a program to check if any of them are the common key?

The common key is stored on a certain piece of hardware that's coupled with the CPU. It'd be a real bother to take it out, so only one person's actually done it, and he's not sharing his key. Bruteforcing is pretty much hopeless, it'll never work. GBAtemp isn't the place to talk about this either, this isn't exactly a development forum. Probably not the best idea to bring it up to actual developers either, they don't take too kindly to noobs.

Why? The guy's holding out on us? Or is it because of possible Nintendo retaliation?

Dunno why he's holding out. But the main thing the common key would really be used for is piracy, and he doesn't want that, nor do most of the people working on this.
