ROM Hack i want to make a ds game

Can someone please fill me in on what programming language(s) I need to learn, what I need to download and install, and where I should start? I know very little of what I should be doing and what my resources are.

I am working on OSX. Is that going to be an issue? I can use Virtual PC sparingly.

C++, however as stated above, you will probably want to start with PAlib, there are some awesome and helpful tutorials to learning to start programming in PAlib, however with NO programming knowledge it may be a 'little' tough, but you can probably work it out with half a brain.
