Yeah, Squire is the entry level guitar line made by Fender. You pretty much can't go wrong as long as you get it from a shop that can set it up well, as these instruments aren't usually set up well from the factory.

I'd go with a Strat style or a Telecaster style from Squire.

Washburn also makes a good entry level guitar.

yeah, a stratocaster makes for a good beginners electric.

better go for a used brand model than a super-cheap-china model.
if the instrument is too poorly built you wont have any fun learning.
there are good china models though, the price will tell you.

It depends on what kind of material (Metal, Rock, Punk, Jazz, etc) you want to play with and what kind of guitarist (Lead Guitarist like Joe Satriani, Kirk Hammett or Rhythm Guitarst like Jymz Hetfield) you aim to be.

If you are more of a Rock guy, go for cheap Fender Stratocaster series, if you are more into Metal (lead or Rhythm) go for an Ibanez.

and dont forget a good Amplifier, i think an Marshall MG-15 is good enough for you since it has Distortion and Reverb within too and you dont need to get an effect for those.

those are comes from about 7 years of electric guitar experience, feel free to correct me and take them as an advice from a player, not a teacher.
