How can i make the background of a icon Transparant??

I'll add another question here, since I'm also trying to edit a homebrew icon.
How do you make it "exactly" a 16 color picture? Some guide lines using Photoshop would be great.
Anyway, to make a transparent icon you have to give your picture a pink background, unfortunately I can't remember the RGB numbers but I'm sure someone will reply to this.

Ok, I feel fucking stupid now.
To make a transparent icon just delete the parts you don't want to be seen and save the file as GIF.
That's pretty much it.
Here's how the layers should look like after you're done:



P.S. that was the icon I wanted to make, the NeoDS emulator doesn't have an icon.
