Hacking How to patch roms?

hey guys! Ive been away for so long so bare with me when I ask this question, how do I update a rom? for example, how do I update super smash to the latest firmware? So that I can play with friends locally?

Use freemultipatcher (a CIA) then go on eShop and download the latest patch. And yes you can play online right away.

So without CIA, do you still need to get that legit string from another rom (or find one here) and edit the rom manually before using it to go online? (sorry I've been away for a while as well) Or is there an easier way to do it now?

I guess you mean the private header, and yes you still need them before going online with a .3ds rom, no easy way out other than cia installed games.

If you dump your own rom you can rename it to .3dz and go online right away, otherwise you have to get a header and inject t (if you download the rom off the net). I don't know much about that process sorry. CIAs are a lot easier.

There is no "cia DS roms", if you want ro play DS roms you need a DS flashcart.
