Hacking How to get EVERY HD to work with the USBLoader

I have one of those sets for IDE only that I use for transfers and data recovery. It has never let me down and I recommend that everyone who works in IT get one of their own. Newegg and other online shops have several models. Just let it be known that those things won't work with optical drives. I've tried.

Incidentally, I ordered a SATA-to-USB adapter because right now I'm using the controller board from a gutted SATA enclosure for USB Loader 1.1. Does anyone have any experience with one of these?

Some smaller laptop size external usb drives can be powered completely by usb while others require external sources of power. It is usually pretty straight forward on which will and will not work because faster RPM drives such as 7200RPMs require an external power supply while 5400rpm and 4200rpm drives can run purely on usb. I also would not be surprised if some computers can provide better power over its usb ports than the wii.

The adapter I have has two USB plugs. One of them is dedicated to powering the 2.5" side.

i tryed this a few days ago as i already had one for a few months. it does work with my 2.5" ide hdd. its and old 10gb drive i had lying around but after a few trys it does indeed work.
have not tryed it with a sata or 3.5" ide yet.
[edit] mine has a sata port on it too. thought i would say so as i didn't see one on the adaptor picture in the first page
i also had to format the drive on a pc first

I have this exact adapter and the USB Loader 1.1 does not work with 2.5" IDE drives !
Only the 2.5" SATA drives i used worked.
Use the newer one with Mini-USB connector or the double USB plugs for power and communication.

Yes, there is IDE/SATA adapters...

one side is IDE, the top of the device has an sata port, and the other side has miniIDE port.

As for interference, I have the HD on the other side of my TV, and have it all connected via a 12' USB cable (had it for my iPod before I got a speaker/charger dock)... never see any interference, so try moving it away from your Wii a little bit.

I have a switch built into the power cord for mine, so I can turn it on and off without pulling the power from my drive. Just takes a few minutes to build that into the cord, and about $4 from RadioShack (elec tape, rocker switch)

I've not been able to try it with any miniIDE drives, as I don't have one. I have standard IDE, standard SATA and miniSATA drives, and they've all worked.

At the time right now, I can't get the chipset ID from my device as I fried the power adapter (was trying a new mod, and kinda got out of hand... thank god for fire extinguishers!)... let's just say, don't try to add a remote power switch to your drive! Just happy I was smart enough to not have the drive connected!

The SATA port isn't shown in the picture, because it's on the side not shown... I can take a photo of mine to show it's there if you want... but I promise the SATA port is there!

And lastly, no, I'm not selling these... I'm just recommending them, because EVERY single drive (all 40) I've tried work!
