Let's get this straight.
To download and play any PSX EBOOTs or PSP ISOs, you NEED custom firmware.

However, you can buy PSX games from the PSN (PlayStation Network) in which you don't need CFW.

As others said, the PSP-3000 cannot be hacked and therefore cannot have CFW just yet.

Also as others said, please read other threads here, especially the stickied ones. Goodbye.

so your saying that I can play PSX games without CFW but with a Custom Firmware? What is this custom firmware?

Hello world is a long ways from custom firmware

CFW = Custom FirmWare

see how that works

I suspect that hacking the PSP is probably beyond your capabilities

1 of the people working on that hack already said he'd have a HEN ready by next week.
(HEN=simple CFW that runs from the memorystick)

TA-088v3 and TA-090v2 CFW won't happen anytime soon tough(not that that matters much if there's a good HEN available)
this because it can't boot at all if CFW would be installed.

CFW = Custom Firmware...
I'm saying that you need to BUY the PSX games from the PlayStation Network if you don't have CFW.
Let's get this straight: NO pirating/free games without CFW.
Without CFW, all you can do is buy PSP games from retail stores, OR buy PSX games from the PSN.

Roms is for DS Iso is for Psp
more like

disc media= ISO

Cartrage media= Rom
lecture.gif
technically...
rom= read only memory, or a 1on1 copy of read only memory.
iso=1on1 copy of a disc

and a disc is rom(read only memory) too.

in other words an iso is a rom, but a rom isn't always an iso.

I agree with the post I did quote.
The UMD is a read only memory and there for a dump of it is a ROM.
I just can not stand people who think otherwise.
File extension has nothing to do with it.
If I rename my NDS roms they still remain roms.

There is also EEPROM but that isnt used very often anymore and for sure not on the PSP.
Stands for Electrically erasable programmable read-only memory.
Get your facts straight before you pull out your keyboard and post non sence.

Sorry, but you look for images--preferably .iso--for disc-based systems. It's that simple, you don't look for roms. I don't care if you're talking about rom, eeprom, ram, sdram, ddr, sram, ddr2, ddr3, cpu, gpu, cd-rom, dvd-rom, dvd-ram, cd-rw, cd-r, mini-dvd, dvd+r, dvd-r, dvd+r dl, etc. You don't look for roms for a hacked PSP unless you're talking about emulating SNES/NES/Genesis/etc. games.

I agree with Vistabuser but Golin is somewhat correct... PSP images are referred to as ISO, CSO, DAX, etc. rather than ROM. But really, that's it. If you were to put in a search on google or something you'd likely use "psp iso" rather than "psp rom". Yet again, that's all I feel Golin is correct about, all forms of read-only data are still considered ROM regardless of their extensions. It only matters as to what you're precisely looking for, "rom" if cartridge, "iso" if cd/dvd.

EDIT: Also regarding psp images, putting in "psp rom" does yield search results for backups so either do work. The images are just referred to ISO since that's a standard format for ripped cd/dvd media.
