I use to find direct downloads of the zip (sometimes rar) files. But lately I've just checked the release info ans search for the file name and get them via torrents. I feel this is better since the file is more likely to be in its original released state by groups.

Thoughts?

Extract the ROM from original cart. It's a nice setup because I can also extract and upload my saves from and to the original. Buy your games so you can avoid "pirate boredom syndrome".

Special equipment, one must buy the game, and the leak them online. Takes an average of 10mintues after the real release of the game to get it, then they guy who gets it spreads the love.
