There's a few games that I'm looking forward to playing once they go on sale in a year or two, which I know is really long, but I want to avoid any spoilers about them. I haven't even read the descriptions, lol.

I haven't watched any videos on the topic but footage from it still shows up in random YouTube videos about other games and even videos not about games sometimes, not to mention post on forums and stuff.

Unfortunately, I don't see myself not using YouTube or the internet for the next year or two, so does anyone have any tips on how to avoid spoilers?

I usually know very little about an upcoming game, even if I saw a clip of said game most of the time I would not have any context for what's going on so the clip would not mean anything to me. So that part is not really a problem, apart from that I just avoid reading or watching anything specifically related to said game (unless it specifically says "no spoilers")

I've spoiled myself once or twice but it's very rare and only because I forgot to follow my own rule.

Sometimes, a plot point becomes a joke image, and you cannot escape it. Other times, people talk without spoiler tags. It comes down to how close you get to a conversation about the game.

Overall, life happens, and you'll likely have a game or two spoiled in your lifetime. We just roll with these things.

An old college buddy of mine had no filter. He'd go on rants about video game plot points, and you could not mention a game you hadn't played yet. Chances are, he had already played the game in question, and once he started, he did not stop. His rants were fantastic, but the lesson was simple: Don't even mention a game you don't want discussed.

The problem is that they often give you the context :(

Haha, I don't have any friends like that but I think I'm going to avoid any videos even tangentially related to gaming for now.
I typically buy the game
(you just lost The Game™)

or movie and play/watch said game/movie to.avoid spoilers.
I would, if it were a Switch game. Unfortunately it's a PS5 game and I have neither the storage for it atm or the desire to buy a $70 game that'll be $30 in a year or two.

I usually just skip whenever the game is mentioned or when I see anything somewhat related

I'm playing a game right now that I don't want *any* spoilers for, and I effectively have to avoid anything internet related about the game, and the games Discord. I would love to talk to other people about it, but I don't want any spoilers.

I'm hoping I can finish it soon, so I can hop on the Discord and end my self-imposed embargo. But yeah, it takes a bit of willpower.

You can minimise your exposure to but can't avoid spoilers. Like how I tried playing Tears of the Kingdom completely blind but news headlines and thumbnails gave away certain features like weapon fusion despite me looking away as soon as Tears of the Kingdom was mentioned. YouTube thumbnails also contain spoilers. If you want to completely avoid spoilers for an upcoming game you'll have to avoid gaming websites and YouTube for a month before and another month after its release.

i think if you dont freak out and just gloss over the fact that you got spoiled, your brain will stop caring and just forget. works for me, i get spoiled pretty often as it takes me forever to get to playing a game or watching a show and i can just forget it. but idk maybe i just have a bad memory lol

I have weak willpower when it comes to avoiding it on my own, so I block websites using a site extension that mention the game until I'm able to purchase and play it.

Serious question... How do you look forward to a game you haven't even read the description about?? How do you know its a game you'll even be into or is that part of the fun!

I've personally never been betrayed by buying a Nintendo-made game blind at launch and am always excited when they announce one, but in this case, it's just from a series I really like.

Ah, I suppose I'm the same with Zelda then. They announce a new one, I'm getting it regardless!
