Apple How do I upgrade to a higher firmware

I've had my iphone 4 jailbroken using jailbreakme.com for over a year now. I have tried to download the new skygo app but its saying that the app requires 4.2 software update. My iphone is on 4.0.1, how can i update my iphone to a newer verson but keep it jailbroken??

Once you update, your jailbreak will be lost. I recommend you update to 4.3.3 and re-jailbreak your iPhone. You will have to download 4.3.3 from a source other than iTunes since 4.3.5 is the latest. If you update to 4.3.5, your jailbreak will be tethered, and no one wants that.

You can jailbreak 4.3.3 on the iPhone 4 with either redsn0w 0.9.6rc19 or JailbreakMe 4.0 Beta 1.
