Hacking How do any flashcarts/exploits handle a DS Virtual Console game?

A while back, a small interesting thing occurred where the last DS Advance Wars game was finally released to Japan, but as a 3DS downloadable title for club Nintendo members.

It just struck me that I'm not sure how this title actually works on the 3DS side of things. I'm guessing it would just launch into the DS mode... but is there the infrastructure to have a full game launch from3DS mode but run sustained in DS mode?

Anyone have any ideas or have tried this game yet, if a dump exists?
 
I know you can get eshop games to run on gateway now if there is a dump of it. (But you cannot dump them yourself using gateway).

Silly question but why don't you just use one of the many cards which allow you to use DS roms and just play the DS copy?

Because I don't care about playing the game. I'm wondering about whether this game specifically boots in 3DS mode, or if it works like a DSi game, like Dragon Quest Wars.
 
Is it wrong to say that ds virtual console games on the 3ds could one day be modified to have the rom replaced with a exploit such as waffle's rop loader, like smea injected a game boy rom with pokemon crystal or whatever game it was?

Something along those lines are what prompted me to make this thread. Not that I'm speculating "launching in DS mode ergo exploit", but just like people speculating on DS download play being payloads for the 3DS exploit, I'm wondering if this DS virtual title has any interesting weirdness to it.
 
if nothing else, this presents the idea of a potentially more permanent solution for running the rop loaders (either gateways or fircewaffles) by only needing a cart once to initially get the exploit up and running to install virtual titles, that is of course, if they actually run in DS mode.

But the modified eShop title wouldn't run without launching the hack first.
