Hardware Hori controller doesn't work, quick help please

Hi,
Got a hori wired pad today. It doesn't work. I plug it in, nothing happens. Pressing L R in controller registration doesn't work. Nothing lights up on the pad. Am I missing something here? Shouldn't I just plug it in and it works?

Are you on the right FW version ? I seem to recall reading something about their being an update in one of them bringing this support.

That was it. I updated and it worked right away.

But I thought this pad was released with the switch in March. I had 2.20 on the switch and it didn't work. I updated and it worked right away.

The pad has been announced for a while, but I think it came out only a few weeks ago. I've only seen it in stores recently.

Oh, didn't know. I found it odd though that the Switch needed to be updated in order for a wired pad to work. Well, doesn't matter now - it worked and we had a wee time with MK8D
