I'm trying to find the hex value in RF4 that determines what characters a player can enter a relationship with, in hopes of possibly creating a same-sex marriage patch for the game. But, I haven't found any good resource for how to hunt for hex codes on my own, so I don't know where to start. Can anyone offer any advice?
Hey there! Not sure if you're still around but eh, might as well reply anyway lol. I didn't see anything in the posting guidelines about replying to an old Thread, so apologies if it isn't the case! This is also for anyone else to read if interested in this particular topic.
But anyway, I wanted to let you know I'll be taking a crack at this and see what I can do. I was going to do this for personal use, but after seeing literally no one wanting to do this after researching around, someone might as well start, right? (;
I'm just waiting for braindump to do its thing, so after I'll need to figure out where to even begin as well lol.
I'll only be working on this on the side when I have the available time. I'm still in the middle of the semester now (classes almost everyday lol) so I'll be picking at this little by little. So don't expect extremely fast progress since as of now I'm doing this on my own (unless I find someone else with me later).
Yes, go back and re-read the very first two sentences. I mention specifically there that I'm fully aware it's an old thread lol. It's just the off chance since I didn't think it's worth it at the time to make a separate thread about it.

Relevant information to add: It's already been done. This keeps on getting asked so I am going to post this here.
There's a couple of graphical bugs in it but if you google it, (I cannot link to the site here) you will find it. (Search for: Rune Factory 4 Gender swap) seikur0 created it.
The dialogue does not change, you will be referred to as the inverse gender, but you will be able to date and marry same sex characters. Your appearance will be that of your chosen gender. There are some graphical bugs on the save screen, but that's not an issue. You will not be confessed to by the same gender. Technically your character will be the opposite gender, but appear the gender you wish.
Also, you will have the name Frey or Lest, unless you hex edit the names and recalculate the hash. It goes without saying, but I am going to say it anyway, if you edit your saves, make backups!
You will need Luma to run the patch and JKSM (or another method to import/export saves).
Please note, it has been reported that Mistress Trupin (NPC that can change your name, barn name and that of your farm) will skip the name change dialogue if you have completed arc 2. In the case of this mod, which utilises the character appearance change (extra orders menu) from arc 2, this does not apply.
She will still appear (red dot on your map) and will offer to change your name/s if you ask. (This is useful if you are unable to hex edit the name values)

Isn't it already feasible to swap to any character after the second credit by a Royal Decree?
What most people want is the ability to be recognized as the other gender, not just looking like it.
Since almost everyone that play the game don't know that you can switch model at the end-game, they choose the "wrong" gender at the beginning, and can't change it unless making a new game, which they don't want to do.
Also, @HalfDarkShadow yes, necrobumping is against the rule. Being new and "not knowing about it LOL" doesn't excuse the fact that you should always read the rule of whatever website/forum before using/posting in it.

What I posted is not against the rules, and I am not interested in debating it with you. In fact, the rules state I should have posted on one of the existing posts, as I did. You are clearly mistaken, and should know better.
The actual (relevant) rules are as follows:
Before you start a topic, perform a search to see if the question or topic you wish to create has been made before. If it has, post in the topic that already exists. Duplicate topics will be closed.
When posting please refrain from double/triple/etc posting and from creating multiple topics about the same subject.
Avoid bumping (reviving) old or new topics; they'll be replied to when they're replied to.
I posted because I have relevant information if you don't like the post, move on. I blatantly refuse to "fight". This question has been asked many, many times. So here's the information.
As for the dialogue, my character is referred as male in the "Prince points" and by a certain.. apparently senile character. However he is meant to do that anyway. He confuses it several times, as part of the story. Apparently he does it at the wedding too.
There's two files that come into play, a character info file, and the save itself. I just combined the character information file, with the older save, correct character and farm name, with the save file, and it didn't work. The checksum is fine, but the information is wrong and it still lists males as eligible only.
I surmise it would have worked if I had started with a male character. Unfortunately, there's conflicting information between the two files.
Technically it is possible if you copy the relevant content from the old save to the new one, however I do not know what that content is and it would cost me a considerable amount of time to find out. (There is a file which goes into the Luma directory which swaps the graphics around)

Ah ok my bad. However, necroposting isn't against the rules. Bumping for the sake of a bump, is.
Anyway, I did mess around with it a lot... and corrupted information (deliberately, wanted to see how far I could push it just altering saves). There is someone that would know, but they haven't posted about this game in some time. I am contemplating taking this on and modifying the actual game, but as I haven't played through it, it would pretty much spoil it for me.
It is possible to fix this, it's not unlike a translation patch. I might give it a go after I have completed it or at least gone most of the way through.
Ah, no. I was adding something else. Your post is actually against the rules. You'll notice my post is still there.

How is my post against the rules? :/ I read the "avoid bumping (reviving)" rule as "don't revive threads that haven't been posted in in almost a year" so that was my bad but I never said your post was against the rules either. I was simply pointing out your mistake in taking your anger out on medoli900 when they never mentioned anything to you about your post other than the content inside of it. They were talking to HalfDarkShadow and their post, not you.
