So my girlfriend just bought a new 3ds with version 9.0.0 brand new from amazon(I know she's a lucky bitch). I think we're able to get gateway to work with this but not sure on the method on how to do it.

I have the old xl and I downgraded that to 4.5, so I would like to know if you can use the same system of running the gateway card from the settings menu.

Edit: a question my girlfriend just asked me, say if she wants to buy a game such as A link between worlds but still wants to use the gateway, is it possible for the emunand to run the normal 3ds games? Or do you have to play it in the sysnand? (would this force update as well)

Errrrrm... Quick answer is yes to both questions, you can setup MSET to function as it did on O3DS 4.5 and you can run cartridges via Classic Mode emuNAND.

Bit longer of an answer regarding the setup. You'll need a copy of Cubic Ninja or Zelda Ocarina of Time to start. If you have Cubic Ninja, head to the Gateway site, grab the QR Code and scan it in by launching CN, then heading to Create, then QR Code. If you have Ocarina of Time, just restore the save provided by Gateway using your 4.5 system's Gateway menu. Now you'll be able to launch the GW Menu via one of those carts, and create emuNAND as you have before (but you can't update it since latest emuNAND on N3DS isn't supported atm). You'll want to create your NAND backup and emuNAND partition now. Once those are out of the way, you can install the old system settings and install MSET using the CIA provided by Gateway.

I don't usually write tutorials so feel free to ask any questions and I'll do my best ^^

Thanks for your reply.

I posted on reddit as well looking for help and someone suggested me to install Reinand on the system instead. Would you say this is better?

If you already have Gateway, I would say use it, since from my experience, it's more stable. If you don't already own Gateway and have a copy of Cubic Ninja, you may as well save yourself £50 and use Reinand.

I have the gateway but I'll be off to uni with it. I have Ocarina of Time so I think I'll set up reinand for her. I assume the cia's install on the micro sd, what size should I get for her?

What makes the gateway more stable?

reinand/rxtools are stable, launching into them is a little unreliable but it's not going to damage anything

From what I recall, Reinand doesn't support out of region CIAs - or only shows them if you reboot a load of times, as well as freezing whenever you boot Title Manager. There might have been updates released since then though so those may have been fixed. And I'd say at least a 32 GB Micro SD but that's just because I like having a fair few games.

Out of region CIAs just show up as something you need to unwrap each time in rxtools/reinand, and I THINK you have to input your parental controls PIN. It's annoying.

Ah, fair enough. To be honest, most CIAs are region free nowadays so it isn't much of an issue. I'm kinda out of touch with N3DS emuNAND, been using Pasta for ageeeeeees.

I think I'll use reinand for now and see what it's like. I assume I can't update the emunand at all until it's been updated?

Do you guys know of any video tutorials for installing reinand cause the text one looks confusing to me

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.
