Hi all,

Was wondering if some GameCube experts could please help me with something.

I get in a lot of GameCube consoles with faulty disc drives that need recapping. Usually I search on eBay for something like "GameCube drive recapping kit" and often I can find a pre-made kit with the required capacitors.

However because these pre-made kits come from China, they take ages to arrive. Also when you're fixing a lot of consoles, the price for these individual kits can add-up.

So I'm looking to possibly buy one of those 200 piece SMD capacitor kits that you normally would find on Amazon. The issue is that I don't really know much about capacitors and their values/voltages.

I was wondering if someone could please recommend me a capacitor kit that would be compatible with GameCube disc drives.

P.S I live in Australia so preferably something on a universal platform like Amazon, eBay or AliExpress.

Regards! 😄

Never go to any of those sites if you want GOOD capacitors.

All, if not most, sell knock-off or poorly manufactured capacitors.

If you want good caps, order from a legit parts supplier like DigiKey (it's a USA distributor, but you get a piece of mind knowing parts are legit), Mouser, Arrow, or even LCSC (Chinese distributor, but seems more legit than some shady seller).

If you disregard all these these recommendations, go ahead and try to gamble with your China capacitors. They may last 1 month, they may last 1 year, or they may even last 10 years. They're not made or accepted with strict requirements as legit manufacturers will.

Easiest way is to get all the values from the capacitors on the drive board and order each cap individually. In this case that is really what I recommend and it isn't a lot of diffrent values of capacitors and you can find high quality ones easier that way than just getting a assorted cap kit or the like. Of which I haven't seen any specific to just the game cube disc drive.

So something like this would be bad?

Not saying that these specific caps would be appropriate for a GameCube disc drive.. But I was looking into buying something like that so I can get a few uses out of it.

I was originally looking at Console5 and a few other USA distributors, but as I live in Australia it costs an arm and a leg to get them shipped here. Then by the time you convert the currency from USD to AUD, it costs even more. I was hoping for more of a bulk deal kind of situation so it doesn't eat into my business profits too much.
