My N3DSXL is on A9LH on sysnand and had no issues updating to latest firmware.
I have updated today to whatever the latest firmware is (via system settings as usual).
Now my 3DS still boots up to my A9LH startup (i can boot to the tools like decypt9wip if I hold the button) but then just gets black screen.
Any help?

Update your Luma version to the latest version by manually dragging the arm9loaderhax.bin from the latest release to your SD card.

Uhm.. i don't have Luma. I don't even know what that is. I did the A9LH years ago with the old guide. I think it has Cakes. Can you give me noob step by step? :(

Thanks.
Can't I just remove cakes and put luma in?
I don't remember a guide with Cakes, but you should. Be able to if you do it right, since you already have the stuff needed, just needs a work around.

You can also keep Cakes by multiple emuNAND with Luma3DS, but I'm not sure how.

Anyone here can get me a definitive step by step? The A9LH sysnand with Cakes is the first iteration of the plialect guide

Just do everything over again since you said you did A9LH years ago.
You know that installing A9LH on a system with A9LH will cause a brick right? I think you meant to suggest for her to update her A9LH which isn't a bad idea but she should be on a current CFW prior anyway.

That's all? Will that get rid of the old Cakes as well?
Ok I will try this and report. Thanks.

I could be mistaken, but if your version of A9LH is too old it may not be able to launch the latest version of Luma. I'd update that first, like I said in my earlier post.
Yes, this will replace Cakes with Luma.

Depends on how Cakes was loaded, if you were loading it through AL9H via payload, then yes. If you were using an emunand or something then it will exist in tandem.

I downloaded the Luma release. What do I do with the other files/folder from the download? Do I just use the armloaderhax.bin and ignore the other files?

Not true, the version of A9lH doesn't matter. The later versions just allow larger payloads/CTRNAND loading which is not required by ANY CFW at the moment. No one is using large payloads that require v3 or later.

Yes. You need to create a "Luma" folder on the root of your SD card then create another called "payloads" inside that to be able to use the Luma chainloader by holding start on boot. You can add programs, other CFWs whatever....
