don't need to just use this to install iso58 http://wiibrew.org/wiki/IOS58_Installer

I know, but Team Twiizers did NEVER recommend to update through Nintendo before, but look at Wiibrew:

WiiBrew recommends that you run the latest version of the HackMii Installer and then optionally update your Wii to 4.3 using Nintendo's official updater.

Only update using the official update procedure. Downgrading or installing patched updates is unsupported, dangerous, and may permanently brick your Wii.

The hell is wrong with them?

they've gone MAD

TBR is gone. Apps that use patched IOS, not necessarily cIOS, are pointless if you don't have an option to install patched IOS.

I upgraded my HBC from 1.0.7 to 1.0.8 (install IOS58 v6175 before upgrading)
earlier today.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Title=10001-af1bf516 (downloaded channel '....') vers: 0.8 (8) FW: IOS58
Title=1-3a (IOS58) vers: 24.31 (6175)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then I did some tests on TBR 1.13 , Dop-Mii v12 ,Any region changer , Any title deleter .................

All of them worked as usual . I didn't find any difference.

I also tested a while CFG UL , ULGX ... and there was no problem ,either.

I'm on 1.0.6 and have no intention to update, everything I'm interested in trying works fine currently, and the new updates don't actually make things work any better. But I guess I'll start treating HBC updates like I treat Nintendo updates now, after seeing this over-controlling attitude in the recent move. Just because there's a new way of doing certain things doesn't mean you have to limit/remove people's options for doing things the old way. Geez, just let the user choose what he/she wants to do with their apps.

Theoretically, isn't the hackmii way, WAY better than what we've been doing ??

instead of using multiple cios and slots all over the place for this and that, all apps once converted, will have full access and work off the same ios.

Having genuine ninty ios will cut down on errors no ??

Am I wrong ??? please explain I'm still lost a little.

It still doesn't recommend to update your wii, it says to optionally update after running the latest hackmii installer, and to only update using the proper procedure instead of some "safe" upgrader.

USB2 is not better than USB1? Or custom themes? Or saving preferences?

What exactly do you think has been removed?

Kinda lame, as I use USB for copying ISOs for RawkSD imports, plus I use USB for watching video files...

Anyway to put that update notification on ignore?

I couldn't care less for the music games, far to hard for me to play (colorblind) & too much for the instruments. I'd rather have sport and fitness games than music. . . I'd probably use Netflix (Wii, or PS3 when I get the system) for videos or the TV. I really would just like a useful functional hardrive to store games (retro or new)

the most common way to update your wii (besides NUSAD) is to use waninkoko's updater. Of course everyone knows them and waninkoko are like heaven and hell so in other ways they are telling us not to use his updater

. There may be more reasons for it but that is one for sure. (someone told me a little story)

I already have USB2 in loaders, the new updates don't add any more to their functions. Things like themes and preferences don't interest me at all.

The apps mentioned in this thread. If people eventually find one way to be better/more convenient, they will naturally move on to it. There's no need to be actively removing things for everyone else at this point. The user should have the choice at their disposal.

their website, their rules

So now how does Wiibrew expect you to update the shop channel if you have chosen not to update? Are they going to be recommending an application that unlike WiiSCU does not have a function to patch an ios!

Wiibrew will no longer be the definite place for information about homebrew!

Also are Wiibrew and Team Twiizers run by the same people? Why the sudden need for a change in their policy?

Just because they don't interest you, doesn't mean they aren't improvements.

Just because they've been removed from wiibrew.org, doesn't mean you can't run them. Updating does not remove any functionality, but it does give advantages for some homebrew programs.

These two sentences seem to be in conflict with each other. What a user chooses to do with their apps doesn't have anything to do with where they're hosted.

Open your eyes, people. This isn't an attack on piracy, it's a purging of unsafe apps that can be re-implemented in much safer ways. How many bricks have been caused by n00bs messing around with their IOSes?

Wow... I just finished reading through this thread and Im having a hard time understanding what the big commotion is. So HBC has changed how it works and has open a path to a better way of doing things, hurrray for progress. All the old apps that use and install cios's still work, great, I can still do things the old way. So Wiibrew is removing a bunch of apps that install Cios's and patched Ioses, so what, BIG F'ing deal, I never got those apps there in the first place. I always get them directly from googlecode or wherever else the devs host their products. So what's all the whining about?

On a different note, My shop channel doesn't work since the 1.0.8 update and it worked just moments before I updated from 1.0.6 to 1.0.8. It starts to load but freezes while accessing the internet. Has anyone else been experiencing this? And my weather channel tells me it is corrupted and that was working fine just before the update as well.

Wouldn't it be wiser to at least wait until the alternatives are even developed, rather than just wiping it all off wiibrew as soon as a better method becomes available?

I understand your reasoning, and I agree, your method of hardware access is better than a custom IOS.

But if you remove the main source to get some of these tools, you're going to leave many users without the functions the programs offered unless they can easily find them elsewhere.

Why not instead put a news update on wiibrew, telling developers of the programs to get their stuff changed over? Give them a deadline or something. I'm sure they'd be willing to use this better method if you'd just give them some time to do it. This update was introduced only recently.

Also, and this applies for several things, it doesn't matter how many safety measures you put into something. There are always users that'll find a way to mess it up. You can ask anyone that's worked on computers, and they'd agree. I can imagine the same concept applies to wii homebrew. I'm not saying we shouldn't develop safer software if possible, but you, "Can't fix stupid" so to speak.

I can confirm that both my Weather Channel and Shop Channel work for me on my 4.2E Wii.

As for the commotion, many people use Wiibrew but still no big deal...other sites will easily fill the gap!

(this is directed at most other people in this thread, not tueidj; I'm just quoting him)

Statistics time: at least 70-80 Wiis have been fully (permanently, irreparably) bricked by waninkoko's upgraders/downgraders and by cIOS stuff that I have direct knowledge of (from back when SaveMii was bigger and people e-mailed me with their stories). Most of those are directly due to bugs in the apps, not because people are n00bs.

Extrapolating, I think it's safe to say several thousand Wiis have been effectively destroyed by apps that fuck around with your system unsafely.

As far as I know, the HackMii installer still maintains a 0 score for bricked Wiis. Which, as of BootMii, gave you full control over the hardware (techinically obsoleting cIOS), and, as of 1.0.7, gave you full control over the hardware in HBC (effectively obsoleting cIOS), and, as of 1.0.8 and the new USB2 stuff, actually implements the single major legitimate use for cIOS (for all intents and purposes, fully obsoleting cIOS). Now tell me you're not a pirate and you still want to fuck around with your system instead of sticking to the safe choice.

What safe choice? You guys didn't give developers enough time to start using your new method for their applications. Are you telling users to use programs that aren't created yet?

No matter how good your new access method is, people are going to still want to use cIOS based applications if there are no developed alternatives yet.

70-80 bricked ?? how about the thousands of Wii's that were saved by cios ?

I'm not choosing sides, I just wish some one would answer my previous question.

EDIT: is bootmii ios still supported ? wouldn't that be considered a cioscrap ?

What programs? USB2 is in libogc, people just need to recompile/relink. The only other mildly useful tools that were removed were often used to install partial updates from Nintendo (sometimes patched, which is why they were removed). So just use the Nintendo updater then. They don't exactly fill a pressing need. Once someone cares enough, they'll be rewritten not to patch stuff and they can go back into Wiibrew. You don't even need to use any new method for that, all someone needs to do is get rid of the patching business and they can go back in.

Seriously, why are people surprised that we recommend updating? Updating has always been a perfectly valid option once a new HackMii installer is out which supports it. Our policy is and always will be remaining compatible with the latest Nintendo firmware, no patches, for as long as we can maintain it. So if you want the Wii Shop, just update to 4.3 and be done with it.

The one thing that is missing is DVDX, but that has nothing to do with the wiibrew clean-out. Erant is working on making libogc play nice with AHBPROT in substitute of DVDX.
