Hi, guys
Please let me know if this is not the correct section to post this kind of topic, ok?

So 2 days ago I bought an used Wii U in order to play Zelda BotW, and I have been reading a lot of tutorials on gbatemp, but it seems that there are some information conflicts between them.

I followed steps I and II of MattKimura's Wii U hacking guide using a 32GB card (my WiiU is also 32GB) and everything seems to working fine so far. Step III said I had to obtain the backups myself, so I browsed the forum and found the Wii U USB Helper topic, which has a nice and simple interface. Now this is where I am unsure about what to do:

WiiUUSB's tutorial says I should have redNAND or another CFW installed before proceding, whereas MattKimura's tutorial say it is not necessary. Since I am new at WiiU hacking, I believe it's safer to install only the essential apps.

1 - Do I really need an external HD or can I install the games on a 16GB USB stick?
2 - Is it worth installing the games on the console's internal storage device? Do I get faster loading screens and/or higher FPS?
3 - WiiUUSB's tutorial utilizes CFW Booter and WUP Installer - Mod Y while MattKimura's tutorial utilizes Mocha CFW and WUP Installer GX2. Are they equivalent? Which ones should I use? Since WiiU USB Helper downloads updates and DLCs along with the games, NNU Patcher wouldn't be necessary, right?
4 - Do I need to run Mocha CFW everytime before playing backups?
5 - What should I basically avoid to brick my WiiU? I read on one topic that installing "system titles" would cause a brick, but I'm not sure what a system title is.

I'm sorry for the long topic, but I couldn't find the answer on other topics.

Cheers

1) with a 16 gb USB stick you will only be able to install 1 or two games

2) no noticeable difference

3) I would use mocha or haxchi custom fireware with either gx mod or y mod to install they both do the same job. And yes just install updates with USB download helper

4) you need to run mocha everytime only for out of region games or VC games or in region games with dlc

5) you can only really brick the wiiu by either having cold boot haxchi then doing a system format or by using sysconfigtool and fucking about with that

Or you can follow wiiu.guide. That will pretty much guarantee you a brick :P

Seriously, do not follow or do anything it says in wiiu.guide.

If you don't want to use redNAND, then you sould consider using Haxchi and then CBHC. Doing this way you won't have to run anything when you turn on the console, it'll be ready to play, because the system will be already patched.

I tought about doing so, but there are literally only 11 games I want to play on the WiiU before I sell it or trade for another console, so in my case it is not worth spending money on VC DS games

Then you have no choice: when you boot Wii U, you'll have to run mocha before playing your games.

Only when playing games with DLC, right?

What happens if I open a game without running Mocha?

I'm kind of a noob, so I'm not sure about the games with DLC thing or if it's necessary to every game, but if you try running those games (the ones that you should run a cfw before) without mocha you'll only get an error message.

Thanks for the tip ;)

By the way, this Zelda BotW tutorial says I have to run Mocha before opening Homebrew Channel and WUP Installer. I haven't seen this information on any of the other tutorials, though :/

I believe it's because it's talking about EUR version of BoTW and since with mocha you can have "region free", so it was recommended to run it before open Zelda BoTW EUR. It's just a guess...

My suggestion, play it safe, just use Haxchi, CBCH is way way more dangerous.
Everytime you boot up your wii u, press Haxchi icon, and couple seconds later you are good to go.
If you somehow forget to apply Haxchi and start a game that require cwf, you will not brick.
Don't use CBCH.

Hi, guys

So I installed the game and the update normally on the USB stick. While I was installing the DLC (I tought the game wouldn't work without it) I got this error:

I turned the console off and on again and tried executing the game.

Everything seems fine so far, so I would like to thank you guys for all the help
