im a complete noob to hacking psps

my question is...
would hacking it myself with a tutorial be a good idea or would paying to get it done by a professional be a better idea?

Modding it yourself is pretty easy. If you want to avoid opening up your battery, but a Tool Battery on dealextreme. The files for the Memory Stick are available for download all over the place. I suggest using DCv6 or v7.
