If I wanted another option, I would've asked "so should I get a PS2 fat or PS2 slim for hacking". But I asked for hacking on PS2 slim, not ps2 fat.
Except this being a public forum, someone with a whee more sense may come across this thread in hopes for a modded PS2.

My advice is for them as well.

Since its christmas time and Ive seen you a lot on this forum. I am gonna send you a freemcboot memory card by mail if you pm me your address. Then after youll just have to decide whether you send it back(after you install it on yours takes 1 min) or give me a bit of money for it.

How much would you be willing to sell it for? Or for rent or whatever.

OMG someone in your own country has offered to send you a card all you have to do is go to http://sksapps.com/index.php?page=exploit.html download the noobie package put it on a USB stick and read the tut http://sksapps.com/index.php?page=fmcb.html install it and send the card back how hard is that

No offense to him who's offering, but you can't trust people on the internet jackass. Again no offense to him, but he is a new member and whatnot.

It's called common sense, look into it.

Yeah, you're right, but I guess it's not a problem. Here in Germany many use services like the one offered to you, for approx. 5€. You can send in an empty Mem card (if you lack time to do it yourself) and it'll be returned few days later. I'm not sure if Free Mc Boot works with your PS2 (version) and don't have the time to look it up, but I'm quite sure the guy offering to you has already checked that. Bya the way: What would you loose anyway (not that I didn't get your point with trust issues online, I absolutely feel the same, but in this case?)? Anyway, if you're not planning on installing a chip FMCB is quite the best method to do whatever you want to your PS2...

Read this if you want to find someone else to do it for you. Otherwise, read this if you want to do it yourself.

Something nobody has said, with ESR (with FMCB) you need to patch each game with this patcher. It takes less then a second or two, just don't forget it.

Which basically means the burned backups for ESR and a modchip are not compatible to each other(i recommend to store the unmodified .iso...). Well cogswap can play both, but it's next to uninteresing.

I would like to know how this turns out:
scenario 1:
everything goes well with a chip or ESR
scenario 2:
the laser breaks

I bet my money on 2.

I'm only a prick to people who deserve to be treated that way. Also, internet? srs bznus.

I don't have a modchip so I can't say anything about how well it works with that, but I use MCBoot and I've had zero problems with it, other than a crapload of space taken up on the memory card, which is resolved by moving some of the installed .elfs (programs and apps for PS2) onto a dedicated flashdrive.

Yeah I have a 1gb flashdrive... I could easily get more.

So you're recommending Free McBoot...

What i meant is that your laser is going to die eventually if you use method that involves your ps2 actually reading discs. ESR does not have 100% compatibilty, but most games work, and if a game works, it's really rare to have any issues. Just look at some ESR compatibility list for the games you plan to play.

...My old PS2 slim died out of the blue, so no matter if I have it hacked or not, it's going to die, I think they're able to be replaced though.

One thing I'm curious, if I do use Free McBoot, can I run games from a HDD? Like I have a 500gb USB HDD... can I run games off of that?

You can but i remember reading that usb is not recommended since it is only 1.1mb/s and games lag. Maybe someone else can shed light on this? I havent tried it out at all
