Hey, tomorrow is my cousin's seventh birthday. She REALLY wants me to get her some copmuter games, but her mom is really restrictive with what she plays. They have reached an agreement, however, and her mom will let her play any games that are educational, especially math. I have been tasked with finding her some good educational freeware.

So, simply put, you guys know of any good educational freeware for 7 year olds, including math, literature, and honestly anything else involving learning? The only one I can remember is math munchers deluxe, and that 's old and would need to run in DOSBox, which I doubt her mom could understand.

The only criteria is:

A. It MUST be educational
B. No emulated games, these people are NOT tech savvy, so the programs should install or just run upon double-clicking.
C. Has to work with windows XP and up (I'm not sure of their OS but it's at LEAST XP)

Thanks, guys

Treasure Mountain!
Treasure Mathstorm!
Treasure Cove!
Treasure Galaxy!

I loved those games as a kid. I don't know if they're freeware yet, however. Might be. They may have to run in DOSbox, however.

ANyway as for the freeware. The problem with freeware educational games is that they tend to be just online flash games due to simplicity. If you're not gonna sell it, why bother making it a standalone program?

I think they mean freeware as in a game so old it's not illegal to download it from the internet.

Errr...eheh, sorry, I meant cousin. Stoopid.

The thing is, I'm no coder, and I just wanna fill a CD with educational programs for them that are easy to use. Plus I only have until tomorrow.

And what I mean by freeware is software made for free, like cave story for example. My cousin's got a really religious mother that considers piracy a huge crime.

I found that a Neopets game called Maths Nightmare is great for entertaining my 8 year old cousin. Actually, a lot of the Neopets game collection is both educational and fun. You could make her an account, set it to auto-login and make a bunch of links on the desktop. Viola!

For the actual ones, you could just pirate some and say it isn't pirated. She'll never know.

what was that old pacman like game where you had to answer math problems when you ate the pill before you could go out and eat ghosts?

It's long past her birthday now. I just got her a remake of number munchers and she was OK with that. Her mom doesn't want me to get her any more now because she doesn't like her being on the computer too much.

Thanks though guys
