Do not get the 17" Macbook Pro if you don't need it very soon as it would receive an update probably at Macworld 2009 in January.

If you need it now, get the high end 2.53GHz 15" Macbook Pro. Something you won't regret.

I'd hold off getting one for as long as you can. Apple seem to keep updating the spec of the macbooks every month or so, which is good for buyers as they always get the latest hardware, but slightly annoying for people that already have one as they have just missed out on the latest hardware

If you've got the money I'd say go with the higher spec 15", but if money's a bit tight then the standard Macbook might be worth considering. Since I got my Pro a couple of years ago they seem to have really improved the standard Macbooks, so they look just look a baby Pro and have decent spec

Yeah always buy it when you need it to ensure you get the best ever-changing-specs you can.
Or wait for Macworld 2009 as someone mentionned. Apple always does something there.
