Hacking general noob formatting question

I have a wii that was softmodded, no idea what the guy used but it has a ton of channels and stuff on there that i don't want. (not softmi or cIOScorp just a bunch of wad installs gamma backup loader etc)
I don't care about game saves or anything that is on it. It is currently at 4.0 as he updated it also.

I would like to format it and start fresh with the console but I am concerned about bricking as I have done a bunch of searches and see that this is a possibility depending on what is installed

My question I guess is what installed software could brick a wii when formatting from the system menu.... Or am I as safe as I can be doing it?

remove the wads with wadmanager, not format

can't he remove them in the channel maneger in the wii setings?

uninstall wads with wad manager, install bootmii, install hbc 1.02 (packed with bootmii install) if not already installed, install cios rev9 or rev10 (your choice), get usb loader, format drive with wbfs manager 3.1, transfer disc's/iso's to the drive, play your games
