GBATemp CompetitiveLocke Week 1 - Competition Start!

The GBATemp CompetitiveLocke is now live! Good luck to all competitors!

What is this?

The winner of the CompetitiveLocke will receive a prize upon winning! However, said prize has yet to be determined.

Each week, a thread, much like this one, will be posted in the General Gaming Discussion. In this thread, pairings and rules for Rival Battles will be posted. Competitors (and spectators, for that matter!) are free to discuss the competition, organize times for Rival Battles, show off their teams, post screenshots, and the like. Users can also post custom soundtracks and UI elements for players to use, if they so wish.

Week 1
Since we're just starting the CompetitiveLocke this week, there will be no Rival Battles for this week. Rival Battles will begin next week, after the First Gym Leader.

Is it too late to join?
Not at all! If you want to join the CompetitiveLocke at any point, just ask! Just keep in mind that the later you join, the greater disadvantage you stand in Rival Battles (even though Pokémon will be set to Level 50 in Rival Battles, competitors who started earlier will, more likely than not, have a greater variety of Pokémon with better movesets).

Hello everyone! I just had a quick question regarding the first route. Seeing as the first encounter is always the pidgey (excuse me if I'm misremembering), would we be allowed to not count that pidgey as our first encounter, just to have some variety?

You get pokeballs after the pidgey.

None of the rules are applicable to the player until the player has PokeBalls and can catch Pokemon.

No, run restarts are unfortunately not allowed. If you restart the run, you will be disqualified.

No pressure, though.

However, do keep this in mind. Your run won't end just because you lost the first few battles.

You can still use it! Rules aren't in effect until you can actually catch Pokemon.

Sure, added! Just keep in mind, Rival Battles are tomorrow, so you might want to do some extra grinding to reach near first Gym territory.

Also, would you guys mind posting screenshots or teams thus far?

I got lucky against Viola. My Firedog crit-killed that ******* ariados. (IMO he was the biggest threat).
