As was mentioned baseline DS flash cart emulation of the GBA is scarcely more than a proof of concept and not really something you would want to play.

Your choices then are three fold

    1) Get an enhanced flash cart, which these days means get something in the supercard DSTwo family (the old ISMM and iplayer stuff not being the best choice for DS offerings). Their emulation is limited in some regards but more than good enough to put a dent in the GBA library, and has a few perks like button remapping and other cool features that hardware means doing serious hacks for software and still fairly radical for hardware to pull off.

    2) Get an expansion pack type deal. Obviously only works on the DS or DS lite as they have GBA slots where things after did not. The main choice here being the EZFlash 3 in 1 carts but do note they are not fun to use if you want to use with a GBA or as a standalone device as everything gets managed by the DS cart.

    3) Get a standalone GBA flash cart. Four main choices here. You can find an old EZ4 (or spinoffs to it like the EZ reform), while the last of the old guard lacks the features of their successors it will still never the less allow you to play basically everything ( https://gbatemp.net/threads/buying-a-gba-flash-cart-in-2013.341203/page-18#post-4756995 ).
After this in a surprise to many some teams made new GBA carts. These being the everdrive's GBA line and EZFlash's Omega flash cart. Both will do the job and do it well. Read the reviews to figure out what one you want there.

Some options above may have more limited cheat support but in any case there are tools like GBAATM that will attempt (usually quite successfully) to patch in cheats to a GBA ROM that will then be present wherever you can run the ROM.
