"Install nvram" in gateway menu, easiest to do it with your emunand SD card out, you know its gone to sysnand then. Close lid and open again to fix 3d

After snacks, go ahead and boot gateway mode.

Some things you should research and do.

Backup emunand with emunand tool.
Possibly update emunand.
More snacks.
Get dev menu or bigbluemenu to install cia files.
Decide if you want to unlink the nands. The answer is yes unless you have a reason not to.

i want to unlink the nands, i just don't want to unscrew the 3ds at the moment, as i asked i can always do that later no? i assume anything bad that can happen with the linked nands can only happens if i upgrade my firmware and i don't intend to do so at the moment so...

Yes, do it when you want. It's not dangerous, it's just not convenient (having to unpack CIAs every time you get in emuNAND, etc...).

ah yes there was another thing i wanted to know, can i update emunand through a gateway game? will i be able to run any game with just the GW 9.0 emunand i have now?

That's not recommended as some people bricked their console trying to do so.
What you can do however is download a complete firmware from 3DNUS and install every of its CIA on emuNAND using BBM for example.

Put BBM on your Gateway's mSD and get in emuNAND, then install the CIAs.

Wait there's been reports of people bricking their console when upgrading to emuNand (to 9.4) via a game?!?!?

I'm on emuNand 9.2 currently and was going to update to 9.4 (for shits & giggles) through Xeno. Never heard of anyone bricking...
