The most ports we have, the better the system library will be.
I hope for good titles to be ported:
Skyrim Bioshock series, Mortal Kombat 9, Street Fighter vs Tekken,
Sonic Generations, Metal Gear Solid 4, Portal 2, Battlefield 3,
Borderlands 2, GTA IV, Devil May Cry 4, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations,
Red Dead Redemption...

I'm with jalaneme & soulx on this one. Less ports and more new games. Developers should put their programmers on making new games instead of porting the same game 3 or more times.

To be nice with OP, I'd state atleast two games I'd like to see ported to the Wii U; Chrono Cross & Shadow Complex.

But my previous statement still stands. Less ports and more new games. I can play any PS1 game on emulators these days. I've got the NES, SNES, N64, GBA, NDS, Gamecube, Wii, PS3, MegaDrive+MegaCD, Pc-Engine, Pc-FX, Saturn, DreamCast already.
Still. Nowadays I care mostly about new games. Ports of old games, I'd rather play on their original console as they were meant to be played instead of half-assed ports (if the case the port is superior in every way I'd rather play that ofcourse).

@xwatchmanx
Zelda Ocarina of Time 3DS is a port. Trust me, it's the exact same game as I have on the N64 and on Gamecube in the Zelda Collector. I own them all. You obviously don't understand the difference between port and remake. A remake is a total overhaul of graphics, text, videos(if there are any), audio and perhaps additional content. Meanwhile a port can simply be the exact same game but with minor adjustments to fit the target platform.

I don't want to buy the same games i already own so i hate ports of any kind.

What a blind sweeping statement. What about a port of a game from a console you never owned?

only problem is, i own all the current gen consoles, so that's a silly reason to flame me for, my point still stands, why should i fork out $60 for the same game i already own on another console? anyways if you disagree just move on, my opinion is not going to change is it?

What about when MGS1 was ported to Gamecube? That's a generational leap. And you have a pretty loose perception of the word "flame". Anyone who disagrees with you is a flamer on planet jalaneme?

Noone's making you buy the games that are on other consoles, and noone ever suggested that you would. Just like multi platform games released on all the consoles, noone's making you buy three copies of the game, does that mean you hate multi platform games?

Have you considered that not everyone has all the current gen consoles? If this topic isn't relevant to you because you already have the consoles, why even post here? You aren't the target audience of ported games. I don't go into the playstation threads and post "I don't have a ps3 so I hate ps3 exclusives of any kind".

Well, you can't just straight port something a generation later. There was very little change from the original version in terms of actual game mechanics.

Either way, a straight port is even better; it gets the games to a wider audience without requiring much cost from the developer, as they have all the original code and assets.

Another example I guess would be Virtual Console. Those are straight ports of games from previous generations. If you've ever enjoyed a single VC game, jalaneme, your point is completely null and void.

So he isn't allowed to have an opinion because he has all consoles?
Nor is he allowed to dislike the fact developers keep on spewing out ports of games rather than making new games because he liked to play some Virtual Console games on his Wii?

Seriously, you need to clear your head and allow people to have their opinions. Just cause they don't think 100% alike you doesn't mean they're wrong and they aren't allowed to state their opinion.

I own literally every single US available version too, thank you very much. N64, Collector's Disc, Master Quest Disc, Wii VC, and 3DS.

You obviously don't understand your own definition of a port. I personally think the lines between port and remake can be somewhat blurred. but that said, the parts I bolded were definitely included in OoT 3D. The graphics were completely overhauled and extra features like boss gauntlet and sheikah stones were added. Also, the frame rate was improved and bugs were fixed.

To me, OoT on the Collector's disc and virtual console are ports (they're emulated, but whatever). but Master Quest on the GameCube OoT 3D on the 3DS are remakes (or at least halfway between port/remake), in my opinion.

And regardless, your foolish nitpick of port/vs remake is irrelevant to my overall point. Of course, in case you were too busy nitpicking to notice, my point being that nintendo was able to port/remake two games with completely overhauled graphics and some added polish and extra features in one summer while STILL releasing a whole bunch of new games within a year. The fact that they used a 3rd (2nd?) party (Grezzo) only further demonstrates my point that it's fully possible to port/remake games well while still devoting full time to new games.

If I really wanted to play a game, I would have bought the current console for it already.

I don't care about exclusives either. The way I see it, everything non-nintendo related will get a port to the other platforms eventually.

What I AM interested in, however, is a GOOD port. If GTA V comes to all the consoles 100% the same...but features the map and the HUD on the wiiU screen...then that IS an addition over the other (no more cluttering of your screen with all sorts of stuff).

Or better yet: use the touchscreen to prove that RTS'es can be actually GOOD on consoles.

The interesting part of the controller being pretty much a tablet is that it allows for ports between wiiU and tablets as well. And okay, android apps aren't exactly making use of all the horsepower the wiiU has to offer (we'll have to wait for the first tablet with HD graphics, I guess ;) ), but still...at least the wiiU allows for angry birds to be played the way it was designed to.

OOT 3D is more like a port with hi-res textures.
There are just few parts that were actually remade

Guys, guys.......ports are a good thing, believe me, as long as we get brand new games as well ( which is the case with the Wii U , don't forget it ).

This generation I skipped buying an Xbox360 or a PS3, not because I didn't have enough money, but because I didn't want to get overwhelmed with too many games and also I don't want too many things attached to my TV.
So I settled with a Wii, and a somewhat capable gaming PC.

But I can't deny I played my share of Xbox360 games on my nephew 360 and a few PS3 games on my broder's.
Now I've been reasonably happy with my Wii, but the occasional PS360 exclusive would catch my eye and made me regret no to have a more capable system, not so much though to warrant another purchase.

When I get the Wii U, I'll be glad to catch on some of the games that I wanted to play in the past 5 years or so but I never got the chance to, and if they come with somehow improved visuals, or a steadier framerate, plus some additional Wii U controller feature ( it could be just a revamped map on the touch screen ) combined with a slightly cheaper price tag, the I say why not ?

More games will only expand the library and give us more choices.
Developers also will make more money on the new platform with minimal effort, and might use that money to invest in newer, bigger projects, don't you agree ?

So calm down, nobody's forcing you to buy your old games all over again.
If you already played it on another platform, good for you, don't buy it.
But if you, like me, and a few other millions, did not, then these games are for us.

Stop the hate.

Dude, look up the hi-res texture packs available for emulators. Hi-res textures can't do most of the things that OoT 3D did (like making hands that actually have fingers, and completely new movement animations for many NPCs). Those weren't just "hi-res" texture replacements, they were complete graphic overhauls. Sure, there were still some legacy bits left in at the core, but overall the graphics were completely redone.

But this thread is about ports in general, not OoT 3D, so I'll stop there.

Seriously, you need to clear your head and allow people to have their opinions. Just cause they don't think 100% alike you doesn't mean they're wrong and they aren't allowed to state their opinion.

That's such a contradictory statement. My opinion is that someone who is completely unaffected by porting because she has all the current generation consoles, despite it benefitting both the game developers of games she chose to buy, and probably enjoyed, and helping keep Nintendo profitable so they have a wide selection of third party games, then she has no reason to come to a thread designed for people to discuss games they want ports of and post that she hates ports.

Am I not allowed to have that opinion of my own? Do you seriously oppose my opinion that people should be free to oppose opinions? Because if you do then you're, by definition, a hypocrite.

Of course she's allowed her own opinion, but why even post it here? Saying you *hate* something because you don't personally have a use for it is ridiculous. It's like saying:

I already have a washing machine. Clothes lines just waste my time, so I hate them... Even though I don't own one.

It's not like it's in your face bothering you, it just enables more people to play more great games and gets your favourite developers more money so they can make new, better games. Why would you hate that?

I'd love to see Dragon Quest 8 ported to the psp or ps vita.

On a unrelated note, I nearly bought Dragon Quest 8 today.

I played that game, and it was the first and only DQ game I beat. I loved that game, it had me hooked.
I don't want to buy the same games i already own so i hate ports of any kind.

Because some times, the port just destroys the original and is totally worth the purchase. Prime examples are Metroid Prime 1 and 2 on the Wii, Resident Evil 4 Wii, Okami, Shadow of the Colossus on the PS3 (beautiful game, just really slow as fuck on the PS2).

I see what you did there...

Anyway, this times a million. Prime 1 and 2 on the GameCube felt really archaic to me and, frankly, a chore to play through. But on the Wii, they feel like truly amazing shooters on the cutting edge (minus the graphics, and even those still look pretty good to me).

That comparison between a washing machine and clother dries, hahaha :)
Anyways, you are right. It's obviously totally unecessary to come in and say "I hate ports because I own all consoles in the world".
I bought Zelda OoT 3DS because I'm a Zelda-fanboy same with Zelda DX for the 3DS. Sometimes ports are bad, I'm talking about the multiplatform games which look & behave differently on the different consoles.
Knowing the fact there is a better version of the game on a console you don't own makes you sad. Since you're either a fanboy or don't have enough cash to buy the other system then it's really sad.
Therefore I think multiplatform games are a bad thing. Oh, and the games take a much longer time to develop due to all the cuts the developer will have to do on the systems which perform less good.

Here's something half-related to this topic, watch the whole thing if you got plenty of time to kill:
