I recently backed up all my gamecube saves and want to know if a save I deleted so long ago is really gone. I did use hex edit and it seems it is because I didn’t see it at all. I’m not too sure if there really is a way to check if it is really possible to restore. There is a program I seen I could possibly use to check for sure but I think I would need to know how to compile it to be sure. Also it probably really needs to be visible in the hex edit if I seen correctly. If it’s not possible I’ll just probably download someone else’s save, I was completely done with the game anyway, I just deleted it because at the time I didn’t have any memory left on my memory card. The game I’m looking to restore is Mario sunshine.

GerbilSoft did make a recovery tool (closer to PhotoRec than a conventional filesystem-based undeleter, with the appropriate limitations): https://github.com/GerbilSoft/mcrecover#how-to-use-gcn-memcard-recover

Of course, any use of the memory card after the fact (especially since you needed space for other uses) only decreases probability of success, I don't think it's pessimistic to say it's 0% from your description...

Just noticed your post I’m actually trying to figure out how to compile it for a while, I actually posted the other day if someone was willing to check for me.I’m looking at how to use cygwin. I’m not sure how to really use this gcc command. Also I was looking at the github page wondering if the proper code is located there for windows, maybe I could use notepad++, I think I seen that before I use cygwin or the actual built in cmd on windows. I see it looks like it’s there for linux users but I’m not to positive if something is missing there. I really kind of have some hope that my save is there.
