Hardware GameCube Adaptor through 1 USB - possible?

The obvious answer is no, but hear me out. I read that the Adaptor only requires 2 USB ports because of rumble.

I'm planning on using 1x Wavebird with no rumble - is that possible through just 1x USB?

It totally is. I'm using the black cable and can play GC games just fine.

Oh great. So it doesn't really need two cables at all? I don't give a damn about rumble.

The gray USB plug is for additional power if you used a wired controller so you can use rumble. If your using a wavebird then its pointless to have both the black and gray usbs plugged in.

Oh fantastic. I'm already using 2x USB ports for my HDD and am planning to use another port for this self-hosting card leaving just one port free.

The only reason that you would need both USB ports is if you decide to use the adaptor with Dolphin, but besides that, don't really need the other one.
