I just received my G6 Lite Retail. This is my first "flash card" and I was wondering where I could find some basic information regarding its useage. Like is rom trimming a good idea on all my roms or not? How best to manage my save files? Can I just remove the game and keep the save files somewhere else?

Loving the little thing so far, if only I could get my girlfriend off it so I could have a go again

Thanks.

1. No
2. For a backup, open the card in explorer and go to the /NDS/ folder and copy every .0 to your PC.
3. Answered in #2

Anything else you would like answered?

Thanks for the answers.

One more thing. I have been putting on all the european versions of the games and only just realised that most of these are double the size of the american counterparts. This is probably due to the additional language options in the european version. I want to go back to the american versions of the games whilst at the same time maintaining the save games. Is this possbile, if so how?

And are trimmed rom savegames compatible with non trimmed?

What's wrong with trimmed roms? All the roms I've trimmed work perfectly fine.

And saves made with trimmed roms are the same as the saves made with no trim roms.

//edit: Try each rom trimmed first, if they work good, if not then don't trim. I guess some roms don't work well trimmed...

So I tried this:

1. Played a game using the saving mechanism of the game itself.
2. Copied the .0, .1, .2 filenames from the game to my HD as a backup
3. Deleted the rom off the G6 with U-Disk
4. Put the same rom back on but this time with trimming
5. Overwritten the .0, .1, .2 files on the g6 lite with my backup from my HD
6. Save games weren't accessible.

saves should be exactly the same trim/no trim.
try copying your saves with the software that came with the g6.
be sure they have identical filesnames as before, you cant rename saves.

I understand but what is the usual procedure people use with the G6 Lite to backup and restore their savegames?

make sure that you restart your DS before you copy the save files to your PC otherwise it will get an "old copy" of the save file.

It will depend on the game, but I expect in many cases you'll find that the US version of the game is not compatible with a Euro save game, and vice versa. You'll have to start such games again from the beginning.
