After reading up on some problems people have had with the G6 lite not keeping saves, and that the usual culprit is the battery, I noticed that mine is showing the following symptoms:

-I lose his save data if I turns off his NDS
-If I do a soft reset I do not lose my data until I turn off my NDS

Formatting and using the maintenance tool did nothing.

Reading up on this I've come to the conclusion that it is the battery, but don't know what a replacement is, or how to change it and I was hoping I could get some help here.

I havent had any problems with my g6 lite.
But about your problem, even if your batteries dont work anymore you still can use soft reset.
You dont need batteries with g6 lite, because when you soft reset the your save will be automatically backuped.

If you screw your gamecard open, you'll be able to see the battery.

Is it a new G6? If so, unscrew it, adjust the batt inside slightly so that it feels like falling off (like loosening it from the solder, but not completely) and screw it back.

Mine was like you once, but when i tried to change the batt by wanting to unsolder it, but i did not, by attempting to twist it off but b4 it actually comes off completely, i decided not to changed already. After that, it has been saving well, even after turing it it off for more than 24 hours, on again, there's still "Processing Data......"

If yurs is a old G6, your batt is bad than:)

BTW G6 sent be 3 spare batteries weeks ago but i didn't manage to use it as my G6 is wrking normally

Where do the save files go on a soft reset?

Onto the flashcart as one of the *.0 files for the respective game.
Just so we're clear, saves can still be backed up on soft reset because the save is still alive memory; ie. it doesn't require any battery to store it
