Microsoft has announced that it will stop providing updates to computers running Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. An estimated 46% of all Windows users were still running Windows 10, and as many as 400 million computers cannot update to Windows 11. Bending to pressure from consumers rights groups in Europe, Microsoft agree to extend security updates to European consumers, free of charge and conditions. There is no reason that American and other consumers should be exposed to cybersecurity vulnerabilities while European consumers are not.

This makes no sense, why limit the updates to Europeans when they could just apply them to the entire world?
It is literally the same OS, with different language packs.
America has weaker customer protection laws, so they can get away with it there. It'll make them a little bit more money if some Americans are forced to upgrade.

Keeping Windows 10 functional would mean reversing all of the updates they released since 2024, not releasing more bad updates.

I can't believe people are this upset about Microsoft fucking off and finally leaving their computer alone.

It's not limited to just Europe, people outside Europe can get the extended security updates as well.

Any country in the EEA= Free updates for one year, you just have to enroll. Only condition is having an MS account.
Outside the EEA= Free updates for one year, if you use windows backup to sync your settings to the cloud. You also have the option to use 1000 ms points or just pay $30.
