Gaming Full Bricked PSP Slim 2001

A friend of mine gave me a psp he said his kid was doing something to it (prolly not hacking hes is 6 year old) and it broke. Not knowing a thing about psp i opened it up and removed the screen and put everything back together in case something got unseated. I put it back together and the screen is still black so I assume it was a failed upgrade or something the unit it's self is in good condition. The battery charges and the if i click the power button up it stays on for a while and then goes off because the screen doesn't turn on.

Anyway I was reading a lot about what I need to do to revive it and I believe I have all the files necessary files, I just need to go to the store and buy a slim battery to abuse and a memory stick.

But before i spend the money and destroy a battery I just wanted to clarify a few things.

I don't know what the firmware version was and neither does the previous owner.

After searching I guess it might be safe to say the 2001 slims come with 3.80 firmware?
is this correct?

And if it is correct do I need to flash over it with the same version?

Another thing some guides never made it clear to me if recovery mode is possible without a hacked Firmware and battery.

I tried holding R and powering on and different combos but the screen is still black... Will it go to recovery mode with the pandora battery?

Also some guides say go into usb mode to format your memory stick and do whatever commands that need to be sent to the device but mine wont
display anything. Is the usb mode option in the recovery menu ? as a said before I believe its full brick.

No its not safe to assume 2001 models come with 3.80. The 1 in 2001 just means which region it's from.

don't see a date code closest thing to that is IC:409B - 2001

So i'm thinking it is a chance I have a TA-082 V3 and if the firmware was 4.01+ i guess im screwed. I'll wait on buying a battery for now, I'll have to look into game stops return policy...

Firmwre doesn't matter, its just the motherboard.

Pull out the battery and there's the datecode:

you can't see my datecode because of the flash of my camera.. but if it is 8B or lower it is hackable with pandora.
so then buy a pandora here http://dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12472
and you need a memorystick reader because you have to make a magic memory stick. the program i use for that is psp grader 8
that's the easiest way i think.

if you can find mine... I dont think all the stickers they plastered in these things have one.

I think ill be ok though, im just gonna make the battery my self. Unless its cheaper going the other way.

that's weard. i think you just have to order a pandora battery and try. it is not very expensive so it is worth the try.

The fact that your serial number starts HU probably means it's likely that you have a TA-088v3...meaning that your PSP is unhackable. What are the chances that they tried to flash a CFW to it? Because if it does have that Mobo then it won't read the MMS you make.

Small. I truly believe his kid did a software upgrade on accident and killed it.

He opened the PSP and then put it back together.That voids the warranty.
