It shouldn't ask for one if you don't have it set up that way. Try and access the ftpd settings and see what you have there.

Are you using the Classic build? That might have that feature removed. Install the other one.

He needs to have SMB1.0 enabled (in Win10) for data management to work on pc.. And even then it can be iffy..


I personally use AndFTP, Solid Explorer works just as well. FTP (with 3ds) works better with my phone than it does with my laptop for some reason. Use FTPD, it's pretty straightforward. If the connection fails 1 or 2 times, just keep repeating it'll connect.
Don't set up a password, just connect as "anonymous"..

Seems like it's starting to become a common problem regarding ftp'ing between pc and the 3ds.. I too were having these issues which is what led to experiment through other options.. Anyway, glad it helped you!
