Free Xbox Softmod?

So has anyone come up with a simplified xbox (original, not 360) softmod which doesn't require purchasing anything (specific games/action replay, etc etc)?

I've been looking around, and as it's been done for Wii & PSP (with an early enough firmware, you can d-load a program, rather than needing GTA or anything), so what about Xbox? (i'd love some XBMC for upstairs.)

Otherwise, does anyone have the required games/apps needed that they'd be willing to send to me for a short time so i can hack my system?

Hotswap method. No need to buy anything.

With the hotswap method, you need the Torx screwdriver to get it open, and a PC with IDE and an optical drive, but other than that nothing's needed. Once you have a dashboard running, then you can FTP on anything you like, or while you're doing the hotswap method, you can even upgrade the drive to fit more.

It's worth mentioning though, softmodding the Xbox1 is not exactly simple. It's not difficult, but not simple. It's definitely a good experience though

Well, THAT all looks quite interesting. Thank you so much for this! I might go for the AR/007 method if money allows at a later date, but this could be a fun undertaking

If you have a female usb plug and an extra controller you can soldier together your own adapter to use a flash drive to transfer the hacked saves. I did that a while ago and it worked perfectly for me.

from the net (I accept no responsibility's with this guide I did not make it and to soft mod you also need the xbox action replay software suggest use Google!) ..

Ok Now that that's out of the way on to the tutorial
First Take your break away cable and cut where shown in the picture

If you plan on making 2 cables (one for usb to xbox and another for xbox to PC cut both lines
(That thing in the middle is a bitch to cut)
Next you want to get the wires out of there so VERY VERY CAREFULLY take some scissors and cut just enough off (not the whole thing just the sheathing.)
Undo the foil wrap if any (some connectors have this some don't)
Next strip off a little bit of the wires to the point of where you can still tell the color of the casing and have wire to solder to.
Ok, now that we have that prepped and ready to go onto the next step
Take your USB Extension Cable, and cut it directly in half
do the same thing with the USB cable as you did with the Xbox Breakaway
Cut away some of the sheathing, then get those wires out and stripped so you can solder to them,
and still see the color of the wire.
Next comes the fun part match up the wires in color and solder them together
(this is where i told you to have extra wire because it allows you to have more space to work with instead of holding the wires together.
Once you have soldered all the wires that match you will be left with a Yellow wire from the xbox breakaway
Well my friend you don't do anything with it, just leave it
Now my recommendation is that once you make a nice solid solder connection use some electrical tape and cover it up so that there is no bare wire exposed.
