Hi there!

I got an EZFlash Omega last year and it worked great at first, saved perfectly. I used it for a few months, then it went unused for a while because I needed a new GBA.

Months later I finally got a new GBA(An SP this time), but to my shock, it was no longer loading my saved files. It was also failing to save new save files.

I used the "Test Board" option after holding select while booting up, and I got this:

Is the FRAM portion of the chip dead suddenly?

It's a hardware problem.

You'll need to RMA (doubtful) it through the seller (which is also doubtful they'll even send back a fixed one back).

You're stuck with the option of heating up the (some) chip with a hot air station (don't use a heat gun) with the hopes it reflows the solder, or sending it back to the seller - where you most likely won't get it back, again.

Or buy a new OMEGA DE flashcart.

Pick your poison. Either one is a shitty outcome.

@EZ-Flash2 Probably won't respond with any other outcome than what I just said 🤷‍♂️

It's a good featured flashcart, don't get me wrong.

But it is also not great in terms of reliability and defects due to how it is designed to compact PCB space.

Ah thank you for confirming, I appreciate the reply. Sucks that it just suddenly died somehow when not in usage...

Unfortunately I don't know anyone with a hot air station, only a heat gun. The seller was EZFlashUSA, which seems to have a very short 30 day window of return for manufacturer defects.

It does have some nice features, but longevity is more important to me. Looks like I'll likely be making the switch to Everdrive, I didn't use cheats or save states anyways.

OMEGA DE is "good", but only "good" in terms of "no other flashcart has these features, so let's capitalize on it!"

It's the only other great option than what you just said, and even they have their own problems...

The probability of FRAM malfunctioning is very low.

If the card has not been used for a long time, it is recommended to clean the metal contacts on the card as prolonged disuse can lead to oxidation layers forming, which may cause insulation on certain contacts and prevent the chip on the card from working properly.

It is also suggested to clean the metal spring inside the Console slot.

If the above steps do not work, then you might have to replace the FRAM chip.

You can purchase FM28V100 from online electronic retail stores and then find a mobile repair shop to replace it.

Thank you for your reply! I actually tried cleaning before I made this thread, so I assume that the FRAM chip is indeed broken.

That's good to know that the chip may be replaceable.

Yeah makes sense haha! EZ-Flash is indeed the only other good alternative. I do also have an EZ-Flash Jr. which so far has worked fine thankfully. I have everdrives for TV consoles(NES, Genesis), 0 issues with those. Unless there are other issues I should be aware of, I assume the biggest everdrive problems are their prices and shipping times xD.
