I have two questions i will like to discuss here, i'll try to keep it short so please read.

    1. Nintendo intentionally decided to use cartridges for the switch system instead of Disc, I dunno how much storage they contain but i would assume is lower than the disc of the wii u games which is known to be over 20GB. With that said, do you think the games will be cheaper than Disc based ones, or least maybe as much as 3DS games which is always intially $40 on release?
    2. Xenoblade chronicles 2 is announced for the switch within the year. Looking back at bayonetta 2 on wii u, the game sold with the first game from Xbox360 and ps3 with "Nintendo" enhancements. (If you played the game or seen trailers, you know what i mean.) If the price of games remain at $60 and not drop like mentioned in question one, you think maybe something similar where a slight enhanced port of the first xenoblade chronicles game will come wiith it?
That is all the questions i have for now bout the switch, and yes this is MY FIRST thread i created for nintendo switch. Just so you know i don't mean is the first ever thread.

To be honest, if the games are cheaper i would find it perhaps good thing, but the fact the carts may not hold as much data as disc is anotehr concern of mine, then again, games didn't even use more than 50%- 75% of the full capacity anyway and still don't. But having cheaper games and maybe potential xenoblade HD port is also something i would like, not that the 3DS is bad, just it was very degraded in terms of apperence, but the second screen makes up for it. :)

    1. switch game prices have already been announced. They will be the same price as disc games (although they will be more expensive to produce).
    2. I don't think XC2 will come with XC1. That's not Ninty's style. If anything they will port it to the switch and charge an additional $60.

The carts can easily have just as much storage as a disc, just more pricey.

    1. games will be about 32GB total space I think? Plenty of space for a system of Switch's specs.
No, they will not be cheaper than discs because carts cost more to produce. The dev expense of the games themselves should be similar to WiiU. Don't expect as many budget $20 games and major 1st and 3rd party releases will remain $60.

    2. maybe

Carts are just flash storage. If Nintendo want, they could fit 256GB in a cart, although that would be too expensive. Check Amazon for prices. Zelda costs $60.

    1. Smaller games will be able to use smaller sized cartridges. Cheaper games, cheaper medium. Works out pretty well. I am a little worried about how much more production cost will cut into their profit margins though.
    2. mmmm it's possible, but I'm guessing most likely not.

Just so I don't misunderstand your question. Are you implying that Nintendo had the option of including a optical disc drive on the Switch?

The psp used discs encased in plastic, it's not totally unthinkable to make a portable console that uses discs.

No i am not implying that. I just figured that the carts they are using were smaller capacity than disc, and i am aware that SD cards do go up to 256 in size but these are NINTENDO SWITCH carts, regardless of what we know about sd cards is a new thing and i was just asking a question to learn more about it. It has been known that Sega genesis and Snes game carts can store up to 8MB of data which NO GAME OFFICIALLY LICENSED EVER EXISTED. Until 2010 when that team watermelon made the pier solar and the great architects game on genesis storing 8MB on a genesis cart. That is just something to mention that i'm sure the games can store a lot more but never gets full use of it.

Weather or not it could have just added something like a PSP type disc system, it would be out of my knowledge to think they would, while disc save money but increase loading times, carts are expensive but cuts loading times. So trade off is there, i just figured it was something to mention, if people are making less than 5GB worth of games on the carts and still charging $60 for it while 3DS games are close to 4GB and still $40.

Cant use disc on a handheld. It would skip to much. The psp did pretty good but still had some problems here and there.

The size isnt limited like disc are.
Zelda is said to be 13gb.
And for all we know each cart could hold 250gb or more.

And prices is normally a stander.
The switch games will run in $59.99 for stander. This is the price of ps4 and xbox 1.
$39.99 for games a bit smaller and
$19.99 for the smaller more inde titles.

Of course optical media have been used in many handheld devices including camcorders and cameras. However the comparison made was to a Wii U disc that measures 135mm in width. The Switch measures ~106mm in height, in which case Nintendo would have been better off naming it Tardis.

Well N64 carts sometimes held 5MB and retailed for more than PS1 games which held up to 740MB - so I don't think that storage capacity will factor into price point (as far as lowering prices go).

I know, for us as consumers is never the deal but for dev and programmers as well as the source where the componets to make the carts and disc come from is important to them. Seem regardless of all that we will always pay a price that is what they decide is what necessary. I can accept that, i just figured it be nice for a change, what was i thinking. :P

The carts are rumored to be 32GB on the base size.
I expect to see a max size of 1-4TB, and it'll be Pokemon.

Standard size is 16GB. It is not a ceiling, merely a general starting point. They can certainly go higher or lower should the game requires. The 3ds's standard size was far smaller than the biggest game they have now (what, around 4GB or so?). Though I agree, TB sizes seems a bit...unnecessary. Biggest game I can think of is star citizen, and that's around 100GB last time I checked a long time ago.

That's what they'll very likely do because they can't just release as is on the Switch, the WiiU GamePad was forced on various games to be played with.

It does today. 5-6 years from now, I expect it'll be about right for the biggest AAA titles.
And the last Pokemon has always been one of the largest games Nintendo releases on each handheld.

If I recall, DS standard card size was 64MB. The system saw games using upwards of 512MB.

We also need to take into account newer technologies that help reduce overall game size. For instance, Tegra since the X1 have HEVC/h265 native playback, which can provide roughly equal quality of AVC/h264 at half the bitrate. PS4/XB1 use the latter of these two formats.
