Gaming Final Fantasy IV Query

I've been playing FFIV for like one hour already and I've got a problem using magic to target the enemy.

I've noticed that when I switch on the 'auto-battle' feature, my mage will do the magic skill, attacking all enemies, thereby distributing the damage equally.
Whereas when I attack enemies with my mage without 'auto-battle' switched on, I won't be able to target all.

Please help.

All your enemies are on the left on the screen right? Just keep keep pressing the magical
