DS graphics > PS1 graphics if you play PS1 games on 60" LCD TV. When you display PS1 games on DS size screens while keeping the resolution, wouldn't it look super nice?

I think big PS1/2 games shrink quite a bit in size when they get ported to DS/PSP. 4 CDs? I'd say totally doable.

those final fantasy's were almost 2.0-2.8GB
the ds would never run it unless they wanna make a 6-8 ds cart game d:
Or SDHC flashcart exclusive

However, the main problem is the space that the carts can handle. FFVII was about 1.5Megs (when compressed to EBOOT.PBP for PSP) on the PSOne.
Wait, what?! I think you mean 1.5GB. Smallest eboot PS game I've found was a rip of Ridge Racer, and that was like 5MB.

Actually, I meant Megs as in not Megabytes, but Mega-kilo-bytes. A million-odd kilobytes. Hence, gigabytes.
Ahem.

Totally doable. DS can handle PSX graphics, with a bit of engineering, and using some compression for the music and the FMV... it should fit in 256mb.

I doubt it, if they did end up porting them they'd do it for the PSP since it has far more power than the DS does. Also with UMD's, unless I'm mistaken, you could do multiple UMD's since the saves get written to the PSP.

If they could compress 4 CD's into 512 MB don't you think they would of done so at the time? Obviously compression technology improves, but to compress ~ 2.8 GB (4 CD's) isn't possible unless you remove a lot of the quality. Also, the point of returning to previous locations found oun earlier disks, this data is probably small so putting them onto every disk is probably irrelevant. I'm no game maker, this is just my opinion.

There has been several games that required a larger size cartridge. Normallt the max limit is 128 megs but these games were released at 256 megs.

If they really are planning to port the game to ds, they would have to do a lot of modification to fit everything on the screen as well as into a cartridge.

well i would like to see a FFVII port for the DS BUT with the original character design "PS1 ver." not the new ultra faggot gay design "the PSP & the 3-D movie one's"

& for FFVIII it was crappy compared to FFVII so i don't care so much about it & FFIX had a nice gameplay but bad characters & ok story.

as for the graphics i think the DS can easily have a better graphics & can fit in a single cart with no problem at all

anyhoo just wait & see cause i bet DQIX will really show what the DS can do

edit: i don't think that SE would release a remake for those games on the PSP cause i won't sell as good as the DS "if they are going to do those remakes"

Yeah, but FF7 is an IMPORTANT title for SquareEnix. They can't screw it. And doing a direct PSX port on PSP IS screwing it

And as said before, reducing resolution would play an important role in size saving. And the point of returning to previous location is pretty important. Just think about EVERY area. A huge high-quality (*cough* it WAS high-quality) background, characters, dialogues, sounds, musics... It's pretty heavy, to have data like that repeated x4

Shrinked in one support, without the need of doing dupe data, it should AT least reduce the game of ~1gb. Then a bit of compress... a bit of resolution reducing... And... done

Actually guys, if you did your research, FF7 was basically a new project for Square. They wanted to see if they could make a game span multiple discs and so on without it being a hassle. From what I heard from an interview with Square, is that the majority of the data on all three discs were duplicates from one another. The game was greate, but the CD structure sucked. They went on saying, that if they had to go back and redo it, they could go about putting FF7 on just a single CD, at most, two CDs due to the FMV movies. Now if you take that into thought and compress the music, the movies, sprites and so on down, you could possibly fit the game on a Nintendo DS while sacrificing little graphics/music wise.

soo the real trouble here is the size right?
DS doesn't have any memory card like the PSP does althrough DS graphics is better than PS

i think it would be wonderfull if nintendo released NDS2 with memory card too and better shape and better graphics
so the savegame won't be limited like now

oh yeah
which graphic is better?
FF9/FF3?
because i think fF3 graphics is similar to FF9 but FF3 size is smaller because it doesn't have many FMV,music and 3D world map right??

Firstly its never gonna happen
Secondly if it did, I will buy three original copies of FF8 thanks. And probably another 2 more DSs then.

I'd like to get remake of those games, especially ff9. But I don't know if they would be any good on ds. They should make them for psp or ps3 or something similar.

ARGH I'm annoyed about this "which graphic is better ?" question !! If you ask me, from my personal point of view, FF6 / Chrono Trigger have the BEST graphics among all SquareEnix titles. PERSONAL POINT OF VIEW. Just because I love pretty pixel graphics.

Don't get me wrong, I love FFVII altough not as much as I love VI, and VIII is a good game to waste my time, but yeah, personally I think pixel graphics blow 3d renders outta the water.

As in cart sizes, don't you guys remember Super Mario RPG and the 3D enhancement for the cart ? I bet my left hand that Nintendo will come up with something similiar for the DS 2/3 years down the road. So better graphics are to be expected, its just a given.
