What extension does music in NDS games have? I'm trying to change music in FFIII for some better from other FF games.
And exactly how to change music in it?

DS games mainly (the exceptions I know of I can count on one hand) use the SDAT format, named for the extension used in the roms own file system.
The SDAT is just a wrapper though (which if used properly can achieve some decent results) and there are subfiles within it (they are normally long wave files short wave files (soundbite sort of thing), midi style files and their instruments. The only problem is the conversion to said subfiles (as well as building an SDAT file from subfiles) is only really able to be done with some hard graft and a hex editor (there are a few tools though that can help along the way).

Still here is one breakdown of the format as well as a few tools if you drop the link back to the index.

And if you search around here you can find a threads on the subject.

In short it will be a damn hard feat (the FF music will also need to be ripped and converted) but it will be easier than a lot of other sound hacks you find on other systems.

Hm. Nice. So I only need to unpack .sdat file, which contains all the music, do hexedit to find the music files, swap them with new music files and repack sdat. Easy.
