ROM Hack Question FF8 Remaster widescreen hack?

Hi guys, how is it possible to play the game in widescreen? The two bars on the side of the screen annoy me. Is there an unofficial setting that adjusts the screen to the edge or is there more to it more difficult than just changing a few parameters e.g. reverse engineering.

lazy port, but I think developers would widescreen hack it themselves, if it was possible. It's all about 2d backgrounds, that they never managed (or tried) to restore

Well those could always be stretched in the most ugly way possible.

At least a few of them pan around so they could've been shown in widescreen.

And of course shouldn't be too many issues with opening up battle scenes or world map.
