I'm trying to open a save for Monster Hunter Generations but when I try in JKSM
"This archive could not be opened. Error: 0xC8804497"

So I tried in FBI and got met with "Failed to open file listing archive 0xC8804497"
I have played the game before and I opened it and saved the profile just to be sure, but I can't get in the save data. Any tips?

FBI can open save data..?

Have you tried Checkpoint?
Yea it can, if you go to titles, then select a game and select "browse save data"
Also no I haven't, I might try but since FBI and JKSM couldn't open it idk if it's worth downloading

I suppose it’s worth trying. Let us know if it works in Checkpoint

It also doesn't show up as a directory in 3ds/Checkpoint/saves/ but everything else does

What about the built-in save data backup function of the 3DS system?

You get to it by tapping the left arrow on the bottom bar when the game is selected on the home screen.

In that case the game might not support the feature.

Might there be another way to achieve your end goal without opening the save file?
hmmmm maybe? I'm trying to use a save editor, so I need to open the save file on my pc from my SD card

A bit of Googling suggests that the game uses extdata instead of standard save data. I thought Checkpoint automatically saved both, but apparently not. JKSM definitely has a different function for accessing extdata.

The data on the SD card is encrypted. Ordinarily I would recommend using ninfs (to decrypt the data) followed by 3ds-save-tool (to unpack the decrypted save data), but apparently the trendy new way is to use threeSD, as in https://gbatemp.net/threads/restore-save-data-from-dead-3ds-2ds.606907/ .

But none of this is necessary if JKSM or Checkpoint just has to be instructed to access the extdata instead.

This was the trick! thanks so much!
