Hello, my name is Daniel and I'm addicted to food.

Day #1 went relatively well. Oh, shit...I forgot you have no clue what I'm talking about.

Well, I have decided that I am going on a pretty extreme diet until I get to my goal weight. Bottom line of it is no refined sugars, and little if no carbohydrates.

Meal plan for the typical day?

Breakfast:
2 servings of protein
1 cup of fruit
1 sugar free juice substitute(Read: Crystal Light), or as much water as I can drink.

Lunch
2 servings of protein
1 cup of vegetables (potatoes and corn are not an option)
1 sugar free non-soda drink, or as much water as I can drink.

Dinner
2 servings of protein
1 cup of salad
1 cup of vegetables
1 sugar free non soda drink, or as much water as I can drink.

No, This won't be the diet I'm on forever...just until I get to my goal weight, and then it's a little less strict.

The first day is done, and I feel like shit. I'm cold, I have a headache and I'm in a horrible mood. My body is detoxing, and it's not taking it lightly. Everyone else I talk to tells me that the first week is the worst, and right now I'm not up to argue with that. It's worth it though. I have a son now and I want to make sure that I live long enough to see him get married and have kids of his own. If I kept on with the road I was taking, it would have been highly unlikely.

18 months ago, before I even knew my wife was preggo, I had the "I don't give a fuck" attitude. Ride life hard, do whatever the fuck I want, and die with a smile on my face. Well, it's not all about me now, and I'm not going to leave my wife to raise my son alone. I don't want my son to grow up without his father, or even worse, having him call me the fat bastard that ate himself to death.

I don't have an exercise plan, but I don't feel that exercising while I'm detoxing would be the best idea...besides...my son gives me enough exercise. I figure that in a few weeks, I'll start with the cardio and shit.

It's going to be hard, but no one said life is easy. I'm on the road to recovery.

Why am I telling you all this? Well, it's part of my plan to keep a daily journal of my daily diet, and any thoughts I have that day.

For breakfast I had a blueberry and banana smoothie with lowfat yogurt, and 2% milk, for lunch I had 2 eggs, fried with EVOO cooking spray, lots of pepper and a dash of salt, and a cup of cauliflower, steamed also with a small dash of salt, and a large glass of water flavored with MiO. For dinner I had two boiled eggs with 2 cups of mixed salad, a very conservative serving of low fat cucumber ranch dressing, and a large glass of water flavored with MiO.

So much for Day one. let's hope the next is better.

Best of luck to you, and a tip from a fellow dieter; NEVER forget your motive.

I dropped 40 pounds in three months from an overwhelming fear of diabetes (which, as far as I know, never came to be, thankfully) thanks to an incredibly strict diet and three hours of light/fierce exercise a day but after dropping them and a Christmas break came I sort of hung around the same area. It is HARD to start up again if you stop, so keep going full-force until you get to your goal weight.

I figure I can start up again full force after easter, there's just going to be so much candy and shit that it's gonna be near impossible for me to not gain a pound or two, or, at best, not lose anything at all, and that's only if I end up giving the dog a three-hour walk like I used to on my last diet. One thing, if you're on a diet and walking, ALWAYS bring water/gatorade/whatever can quench you, it will help you keep going for MUCH longer. Also, what I do that works is to start walking and do 30-second sprints every 5-7 minutes. This way, you get your heart rate up but don' tire yourself out right away.

Don't go on a no carb diet. Carbs are the primary source of energy for the body. If you get too few, you'll find yourself without energy. Honestly, if you really want to lose weight; diet and exercise. Don't go too hard with either, otherwise you'll lose hope. You aren't making your body better if you run off and harm it in the process.

You don't want to much protein either. There tends to be negative things associated with protein related foods such as meat and eggs that you don't want multiple times in a day over an extended period of time unless you once again, want to do more harm than good.

Diets are tricky and tend not to work too well on their own. Skinny doesn't mean healthy. A balanced diet and exercise really is the way to go.

Good luck, Daniel.
Hope it works out. My mom said the first week is hard since you get the cravings.

I hope you get through this a skinner man. It's to use your family as inspiration in this time.

Don't take what I have said badly, since I care about you as a friend.

Good Luck!

I lost 90 lbs last year, if you care to know how I did it, I lost most of it playing Stepmania and the rest hackey sack. I entirely quit fast food. I quit sugar soda, and eventually diet soda. Also don't drink fruit juice, it's just as bad as soda. I counted every calorie and ate 1600 a day. But the absolute most important element that sparked my health kick was getting surgery to fix my lifelong nasal blockage. Nasal breathing is incredibly important for helping you keep your breath, helping retain oxygen in your blood, generates nitric oxide, etc etc etc. I could never stress enough how important nasal breathing is. Getting my nose fixed changed my life forever. Good luck.

Fix'd

Anyway, good luck with that, man. I've been needing to start dieting as well, since I'm pretty overweight. I drink water a lot, but I need to start eating better foods as well. Good thing I love vegetables.

This is quite interesting. I literally have had a lifelong cold; there is not a second of my day when it's not blocked up. I have been considering some type of nose job eventually to fix my sinuses (if my issues aren't gone by the time I'm older, I'm only 15 right now and it might just be a teenager thing) but I didn't think it could really affect anything except for having to blow my nose all the time and sneezing like nuts. Glad it worked for you.

again, good luck, twinretro.

anyway on topic i wish you luck. when i was in high school i gained a good 50-100 pounds so i understand the fat crap your going through. i started bringing my own lunch and was slowly loosing weight now im graduated and lost most of the excess weight. im still fat but i don't stress over it. stress makes it harder to loose weight so don't stress too much

also if you need any help or advice im here to listen. I've gone through what your going through(even though im younger)

For stress:
It depends on the kind of stress person you are. Some people lose incredible amounts of weight when they get stressed, as they can't keep anything down that they try to eat, or food just doesn't look appealing. Others eat a lot when they stress and end up gaining weight. With other people, their metabolism will just start acting funky, and they end up at a standstill with their weight.

Good blog, catchy title (although you've got that song stuck in my head now

) I hope you can keep us updated. I'd like to follow your stats -- it'd kinda be like an RPG, ya know?

Anyway, I wish you great success. I recently lost 80lbs(36kgs) myself --it's not easy! The first week is the worst, though, then its smoother sailing until you get 10-20lbs from your goal. Aim for about 1200 cal. /day and 30 fat grams and you'll do great.

Well, I'm somewhat fat, I guess. I weigh 140 with height at 5'6~5'8 at the age of 13. I usually eat a lot everyday and still remain at 140 lbs. I've been staying 140 lbs for a year now. The reason why I'm still at 140 is because of my school's hardcore P.E. exercise. We don't really play outdoor games. We usually do 100 push-ups + sit ups followed up with a non-stop/no-walking-allowed 1 mile run.

You can still eat a lot if you exercise enough. I mean, you still get the weight, but it's more of a 'positive' kind of weight. Instead of getting flab, you get muscle.

Oh Danny Boy,
The pies the pies are calling, calling!

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

I've never had a lot of luck with diets. Would always wake up on the diet, and go to bed having gone off of it.
Hope you have better willpower than me, buddy.

Thanks for the support, guys. I was really expecting some trolololol posts, but I was pleasantly surprised.

The point of no carbs at this point is to work off my body's natural "reserve" at a fast clip. Carbs will be introduced once I hit my goal weight. Atleast that's according to the OA handbook.

I hate that song with a passion, but you still got a chuckle out of me hehe.

Willpower IS something that I lack, but I have other motivations driving me other than my own will...my own mortality for instance.
