my suggestion is dont buy an R4.. rather look for the 'edge' or 'supercard ds one (version 3)' as they're better than the R4.. R4s sold here in the phil are overpriced, it cost 4k while the edge & supercard ds one v3 only cost around 1.7k.. ive also seen a bundle for the edge with a microSD included for only 2k (1gb) & 2.5k (2gb)..

but if you still want to buy an R4 over the better choices, then its up to you..

i think an original R4 has the spring-loaded microSD slot while a fake one has no spring on the slot (v2 & v3-sdhc)

just go to the official R4DS website and compare your R4 with the v2 pic right on the front page of the site. I heard fakes are somewhat shaped differently as well....not certain of that though. Mine looks exactly like the one pictured. Curves and what not.....

nope.. he's asking how to differentiate an original R4 from the fake one, coz he's going to buy one.. i just suggested some carts which i think are better than the R4 in terms of features & prices..

its better the r4
and R4 gots the 100% problem of occasional freeze and function problems
(found that out myself)
because i have a R4 and it sickens me lol.
i was thinking to save up for a supercard one without a microSD
and use the one current in R4 to play on SuperCardOne

I'm getting a third flash card now but this time I'm going for the Acekard2. The price is very similar or slightly cheaper(depending on place you are buying from). It has it's own set of issues too.
The CycloneDS is very popular but I'm not about to pay that much for a flash cart.

Acekard 2 has way less problems than the R4.... And it's actually way cheaper than R4.... While having a whole lot of features more. Still, Acekard 2 doesn't have such a great build quality, so you might wanna be careful.

I thought I had done enough research on the Acekard2 before ordering it but browsing deeper into forums, there are significant problems with it. Fingers-crossed that I dun get one of the bad ones.

I bought my R4 from gameyeeeah at abt $28USD and the Acekard2 from DX for about $23USD. That's b4 shipping. Could not remember how much shipping was from gameyeeeah but I did not pay the $20 express. DX shipping is of cse free.

You dont always have to slam your opinions on people. If he wants an R4 he can get an R4. Its not your choice to make. If he asks you what should he get then tell him to buy a cyclo or whatever but he didnt.
