i am not, like i said earlier.

Anywho, it fixed itself. I did suspect something like this.
Lord knows why it happened or why it went away. I changed nothing.
I'm having the exact same issue. Shame you don't know how you rectified it. Much like yourself, I tried everything.

Okay, so i figured it out.
Its the amount of titles you have installed. I didnt even consider this for the longest time, cause online searches tell you the switch can have many thousand titles installed without issue, but that seems to not be the case.

Which means "Game + Update" being 2 titles.

"Game + 28 DLC + Update" being 30 titles.

The moment i uninstalled a game without update i now had enough to install another game, but not its update etc

Meaning, to fix this, uninstall some stuff.

There is no “game limit” on the Nintendo Switch. The number of games you can have is only limited by your storage capacity.

i know, thats what google said, too, but its reproducable.

if i uninstall a 30 title game i can then install 30x 1 title games, or 15x 2 title ones.

Ive tried it over and over.

Only uninstalling titles from the switch made a difference.

i have tried everything else, several times. Updating every piece of homebrew, plugin, firmware, signature patches, sys-patcher, rebooted into recovery mode, wiped everything and completely reinstalled atmosphere and hekate, moved to a new sd card, ran checkdisk, pulled my hairs out, banged my head against the table and jammed my toe in the fridge-door (hard) and THIS is the only thing that fixes it.

Then your storage (onboard/ micro SD card) must be full. Have you gone into settings and checked your storage?

had over 30gb free on my 1TB microsd and i was attempting to install NSP/NSZ files of no more than 1gb.

If ive tried this much, for this long, how likely is it REALLY that i wouldnt realize it if my storage were full?

If your onboard storage is near full, some games will not install because games use "game data" storage on the onboard storage side. Try clearing space on onboard storage, then try again.

i did not at any point change any of the content stored in my NAND.
ergo its unrelated.

When you install the game on SD card, it will still create a "game data" folder on your Nand.
Ergo since you don't want to listen to any advice, good luck on your own.

There was always plenty of storage space available on NAND.
12GB NAND free is fine to install a 64mb NSP on the SD CARD.

its unrelated.

crystaldiskmark verified
You're correct, I have a crystaldiskmark verified 2TB SD-card, and I have the same issues.
It really does happen once you've installed too many titles, I don't know why. There is literally no game limit on the switch so I don't see why this is happening.

im clueless and after many attempts to find out why any of this is happening im still not even close.
there has to be some kind of limitation somewhere, but i couldnt say why or how.

I figured it out. The switch has a hard-cap on the amount of content records that can be stored on the system. You can see what content records are by going into DBI, browsing all applications and selecting one.
Like you mentioned, base game, updates, and DLC all count toward this total.
I'm not sure why these morons put that cap there in the first place, but it's probably impossible to get rid of since the Wii U had a similar problem with a 300 game limit.
If there's some way to increase the limit of content records, then this issue would be resolved instantly.

I should also mention that deleting these content records using DBI has been hit or miss for me. I've deleted about 500 pieces of DLC which should mean that I can install 250 games with update, but that wasn't the case, because I was only able to install about 60.
I'm struggling to understand why this limit is here.
