Hardware External HDD Question

I have a PS4 (Non Slim or Pro) that has a 500GB HDD. I am thinking about adding an External HDD, was wondering if this one would work: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-easy...able-hard-drive-black/5792402.p?skuId=5792402

Also, what all can I put on the External HDD? I know Themes and Saves can't be put on it, but what about Application/Game data? Most of my games are on Disc. Thoughts and help appreciated

Yep it does work. I have a wd 2tb passport drive had it formatted first then I got to install all of my boxed games on it

Applications can be installed but not game data those are stored on internal hdd
