Error code 165-6596

I just got a wii u off Facebook (should have known better, my luck with facebook consoles is bad). Tried to play Breath of the Wild and error code 165-6596 pops up on the gamepad. Did a little digging around and apparently it pops up with games that has any sort of amiibo function.

My question is, as I was already planning on installing cfw on the wii u anyway, is there a setting or extension or something that will allow me to disable to amiibo function altogether? Or, will I just be better off getting another gamepad?

In the short run https://github.com/GaryOderNichts/re_nfpii might help but I guess in the long run it's best to replace the gamepad.
